There is a right of way permit for crane services to start on Ross between Harwood & Olive on the 16th Jan all day going into early hours of next day. Closure is for all lanes of Ross in this section.
Seems like a very good chance that is the day to start seeing action for a tower crane to go up. It's a Saturday.

I assumed they’d wait until after the holidays to start.

I totally forgot to post where I found that:
https://rowmanagement.dallascityhall.co ... =162778178
And, now there are two more ROW/Traffic Control permits related to using a crane in the vicinity:
29-31JAN21
https://rowmanagement.dallascityhall.co ... =162778820
06FEB21
https://rowmanagement.dallascityhall.co ... =162779085
Notes:
In the first two, it appears the application cut/pasted a Maple Ave address as well as Ross Ave while on the third one they maybe finally realized the cut/paste mistake from perhaps another job in the past. But, these are all on the map for the correct location.
Also, the one for late January is curiously labeled residential while the other two are labeled commercial. Could just be another error, or not. . . haha.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I was in the area on Saturday afternoon while the mobile crane was onsite. The boom was over the patio to the right of Sloane’s Corner at Trammel Crow Center. I was only passing through, but it was clear they were working on something at TCC.
Here’s to hoping the next ROW closures are JWM related.

Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Was at the office for a bit this morning and looked down to see if there is any visible evidence of a ramp up in activity. Nothing.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
There’s site prep work taking place on the once grassy lot next to the garage. Lots of equipment and putting down some type of gravel for a construction staging area. I imagine we will see a crane go up soon.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
It's official, the site preparation is underway for the new JW Marriott hotel construction.

That's the side where the residential tower would go. I assume they are simply locating the construction trailer and the crane on that land since the hotel would be on top of the garage on the other side.

That’s what it looks like they are going to do.

Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
SOOOOO EXCITING!! Ross had some major closures over the weekend, so glad to see this is officially starting, a great addition to Downtown.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Construction fencing is up on the side lot and scaffolding is up on the sidewalk along the garage/retail space. We should see a start after the cold weather subsides.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Did the crane ever go up?
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
It looked like there was a crane up over the weekend.

Great, thanks!
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I don’t see a crane yet.

Just drove by the site. They are constructing sidewalk barriers & overhang protectors all around the perimeter of the building, as well as a ground level staging site. I could also see some preliminary wooden walls on the top of the parking garage's roof. It appears they are progressing.

Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I believe they are adding 15 floors to the top of the garage, correct?
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Workers on site and crane moving.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Update on this construction progress, please!
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Rebar is sticking out from the top of the garage.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I suppose the residential tower for this could be an office tower for Goldman Sachs if the bank expansion happens in the CBD.

That seems pretty unlikely.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
^it does... All the press releases so far have talked about a campus, which has suburban written all over it. Or maybe the LTV tower could hold the whole thing... Over time

it would also be dependent on the type of space GMSachs wants. When you design space for a residential tower vs a modern office tower the requirements can be very different depending on the tenant.

Using the KDC webcams on Uber tower to look at Marriott, looks like they are up two floors. Much more noticeable now.

So happy to see this go up, so cool. Makes me hopeful for futures of other parking garages throughout downtown, expect you know, that one on the SW side being built brand new... but hey, ground floor retail in a brand new parking garage!

Great infill...Our downtown continues to look very dense.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
JW Marriot is such a powerful brand, the location in the Arts District is so good, and the surrounding towers are all renovated…I am thinking that this may be the project that finally gets the Uptown energy to jump the gap to Ross Ave.
This would seal the deal— Pearl Street: Avenue to the Arts. See p. 18+
• Unify and expand the Dallas Arts District with a continuous, streetscape between Uptown, Klyde Warren Park, the Arts District, and City Center

I agree. This area of downtown has really improved. Hopefully that momentum spreads to the empty lots in the area.

Wow, that looks pretty good. I wonder how they're taking care of ventilation - it's rare to see a garage so thoroughly wrapped in cladding like that. I guess they did put serious forethought into the garage's design to support this!

I want to say the white slats on the right side of the garage in that picture have openings for ventilation. Not 100% on that though.
But besides, the rest of the garage walls are open air:

Good looking building! This is a great addition to the Arts District.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
Construction seems to be on a roll here, appear to be up on level 7.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
What is the final floor? 15?

25, it's 15 on top of 10 so wince they are on the 7th level of the hotel they are technically at 17.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I was thinking the garage was 11 floors with 15 on top making it 26.

/\ This is gonna be great. Will be the best hotel in Dallas in the best location in Dallas.
Re: Downtown Dallas: 2000 Ross Project
I hope the second tower gets built, either as residential or as hotel, but I don't want the pedestal to sit empty for a generation or two as an afterthought of what could have been.
