Houston Highways
Interesting read about the plans for IH-45 in Houston.

Re: Houston Highways
Sounds like some want to change it but time appears to be running out.
Re: Houston Highways
Strange bump to this thread I know but I have lived in both Manhattan and San Francisco and seen how the demise of the West End highway and the Embarcadero freeway went largely unnoticed by the commuters ( they simply found alternate routes )but the land values / development exploded in these areas. More than compensating for whatever it costs to remove the freeways and provide alternate roadways. Houston is looking at a 20th century solution for a 21st century problem.

Re: Houston Highways
If there's one silver lining to this whole thing, at least they're making the managed lanes 2-way, so Metro's commuter buses get traffic priority in both directions. But nothing anywhere close to this project should exist inside I-610.scott2 wrote:Strange bump to this thread I know but I have lived in both Manhattan and San Francisco and seen how the demise of the West End highway and the Embarcadero freeway went largely unnoticed by the commuters ( they simply found alternate routes )but the land values / development exploded in these areas. Re: Houston Highways
Looks like if they moved it to cover the northern suburbs, it would surround the entire DFW metroplex.
Re: Houston Highways
That's an insane loop!
Re: Houston Highways
In all fairness, this will look like child's play if DFW's outer loop ever comes to fruition.Zmitz wrote:https://www.chron.com/houston/slideshow ... c2NHYZcGZQ

Re: Houston Highways
Is this something people are talking about? I've never actually seen plans for a DFW outer loop but it wouldn't surprise me.Addison wrote:In all fairness, this will look like child's play if DFW's outer loop ever comes to fruition.Zmitz wrote:https://www.chron.com/houston/slideshow ... c2NHYZcGZQ

Re: Houston Highways
It's mostly in the planning phase right now and doesn't have state funding, but Collin County has already begun buying up land and adding pavement along the proposed route (search Collin County Outer Loop on Google).eburress wrote:Is this something people are talking about? Re: Houston Highways
It's the ever expanding DFW footprint. Never ends and there is nothing to stop it.
