Was it the staff? The size? Restaurateur 'befuddled' over Mockingbird Diner's closure

Anybody else try this place besides me? The ownership was arrogant and rude.
You might think a diner near the airport would be a good place for late night breakfast, eh? Every real diner I know does it. Apparently a lot of other people thought the same thing, because the owner put a sign on the door that said, “We don’t serve breakfast after 11:00 a.m. If you want breakfast go someplace else.”
Diners are supposed to be welcoming, whaddya-havin-hon? places. With an attitude like that, no wonder this place tanked.

I went with friends one weekend between 11am and noon, expecting to be able to get breakfast/brunch. Couldn't, in a "diner," get breakfast at 11:30am on a weekend. So, we all ordered lunch options. The menu was tired and the food was very mediocre and we never had an urge to go back.
This location should become a real diner, open 24/7, and for God's sake be able to serve an egg and toast after 11am if you're going to call yourself a diner. A retro air-travel themed diner would be cool being right at the entrance of Love Field.
Doesn't this dude also have a serious history of being combative with customers? I remember a boycott of Maple and Motor in the gay community some years back.

Odd move, but we will see if they retool. On Greenville, they were only open for dinner and prices were high. Most dining dollars are spent during lunch Downtown. If they did an Indian buffet during lunch they would do great with the Downtown office crowd and have no competition. Spice in the City does not offer a lunch buffet, and it's also Indian/Mex fusion.

DPatel304 wrote:Wow, that's awful news. With Uptown in a transition stage, I was really hoping the party scene would eventually leave and we'd be left with a few 'neighborhood bars'. That still will likely happen, I'm just sad we have lost Idle Rich and are now going to lose Gingerman.
I don't know how well they are doing, but I was actually there a couple weekends ago on a Saturday night, and it seemed to still be pretty lively, FWIW.
EDIT: Also, is this the original Gingerman location? It's the first location I knew about, but I also know they have locations in other cities, so I wasn't sure where the original was.
Matt777 wrote:Doesn't it seem obvious that the Gingerman closing might have something to do with the property it sits on being redeveloped for high rise, and not necessarily them doing well or not? It looks like a perfectly sized parcel for a highrise apartment building.
It will be sad to see them go.

So, put the HRC back where it's supposed to be. On McKinney Ave where it was before, only with a tower over it. Throw in a golden grasshopper and palms, too.
