The exterior will be metallic. After the wood paneling they'll slap on a layer of Tyvek and then you'll start to see the copper "plank" skin.

A copper coating is definitely a bad idea, it requires a lot of time to be kept in semi decent shape... Isn't the director a shareholder of a house cleaning company? Because it may look "cool" but is a waste of public money.

Is this museum receiving public money?
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
No....all private donations.
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
Hard to see in the picture, but black bricks are going up around the base of the building
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
I think I saw the parking garage across the street under construction when driving by a few weeks ago (far left in photo). I didn't realize that they were building one for the museum.

Yes, the posted rendering is the only rendering that i know of, but i do volunteer at the Dallas Holocaust Museum and we were told that this parking lot was going to become a parking garage for the museum. i am very happy to hear we will be getting the garage!

They submitted renderings of the garage to the landmark commission a long time ago. If I could remember which meeting agenda it was I would go find it. There are multiple renderings of the parking garage for the museum out there somewhere.

Just saw the museum this week from the light rail. Looks like most of the copper siding is on the building now. Meanwhile, fundraising results have been revealed from the Museum's October dinner at the Hilton Anatole. Almost $2 million was raised.

Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
Good progress on this one, and looking forward to their September opening!
I did notice this morning how more and more birds are making themselves comfortable along the edge of the roof. Wonder if we'll see an assault of constant bird poop having a permanent effect on the oxidation process.

One portion of the displays at the new Museum will include a holographic interview/interaction with a local survivor, Max Glauben. Interesting that the Museum is going outside the usual recorded video type of content for this exhibit. Apparently Glauben relates in great detail and length about his experiences and the conditions there.

Looks a little like a formidable fortress but the building will have tons of traffic no matter what it looks like.

I'm surprised there aren't more windows around the base.

I didn't notice this until you mentioned it. Looks odd now....
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
I hadn't really noticed that either!
Interesting that there may be strong symbolism in windowless galleries that 'keep alive the memory of those lost in the Holocaust advance human rights to combat prejudice, hatred, and indifference' but then again, most museum galleries are windowless, going to great extent to protect display items from sunlight damage.

Not sure. But the buildings cladding looks similar to that of an aushwitz wooden train car..
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
I wonder how long it'll take for the copper to develop patina at the top
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
It will look amazing when it does.
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
Is this building expandable?

Re: West End 1.0
Anyone know where the entrance to the new Holocaust Museum is located? I feel like I should know this by now, but I was looking at the blank wall along Pacific and realized that I have no idea where you go in from.

Facing the Dart line/Current Holocaust museum building..but it's closed off by a construction wall.
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
I believe the entrance is on Houston Street facing the new garage. I walked by there this weekend, and realized that the pacific side of the building will be closed off by the concrete walls.
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
^Thanks for the pics as always, Maconahey
Re: West End: Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum
Here are better views of the entrance. The side facing the Dart rail looks better now with the greenery.
