I’ve been wondering what the hold up is. I believe it’s only getting the glass treatment on the sides facing Ross and Field.joshua.dodd wrote:When will that parking garage next door finally get its glass cladding?

Do you actually have anything positive to say about any development in this city?Tivo_Kenevil wrote:Sorry, I don't find this tower appealing.

Sure. I get more excited about the implementation of complete streets and projects that improve the overall walkability if the city.ContriveDallasite wrote:Do you actually have anything positive to say about any development in this city?Tivo_Kenevil wrote:Sorry, I don't find this tower appealing.

I have to agree with you. I am very happy with this skyline changing buildingwillyk wrote:A landmark in the making.
I think once this building is complete, people will start to fall in love with the whole Fountain Place complex. Two towers dancing in the sky high, forever changing shape and form as you drive around the city. It will be Incredible.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
I'll be happier about a building like this when it's on the other side of the CBD.

Exactly what Dallas is known for in the Architecture textbooks drive by architecture. Looks good from the highway passing by at 70 mph but up close it's largely unengaging, cold and lifeless.Roman_Patrick wrote:Two towers dancing in the sky high, forever changing shape and form as you drive around the city. I don't hate the tower mind you and I don't mind adding some much-needed residential in the CBD but let's not forget they modeled this project after the large trophy wife glass icon that sits across from it. Looks great from a freeway but when you start asking questions it falls apart substance wise. All flash and not much else.

^ until field street is fixed these towers will have a cold shoulder to pedestrians
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
^I like driving by significant architecture! Even if I'm not particularly fond of or neutral toward the building like Chase or BOA Towers, I really like looking at them while looping around the CBD (the ability to do this is one of my secret reasons to keep I-345).
There's no reason these monoliths should not be as enthralling in the pedestrian environment. I think the efforts to humanize the street level experience of some of the fortress towers has been encouraging. Commerica Tower being one of the first to make a better walking zone. Trammel Crow turning the Asian sculpture garden into a fantastic final phase of that orientation to the pedestrian environment is likely to cause a redefinition of Ross Avenue. ATT Corporate Plaza seems even better.

So, true. I’ve actually walked along the Griffin Street/Field Street merge, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. I wouldn’t do it again.Tivo_Kenevil wrote:^ until field street is fixed these towers will have a cold shoulder to pedestrians

What floor are they working on today? Looks like they are getting close.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Up to 37, before too long we should start seeing the angled roof line start to show on the west side.

Different angle
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
If I am counting correctly and I am assuming no 13th floor but they are on 38.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Great pics, have been watching the activity on top all week. They are spending a great deal of time working on the far west side. The floor pattern appears to changing and the first angled roofline should appear on that side now.

AMLI Fountain Place, under construction, Downtown Dallas
Drive by photo of AMLI Fountain Place under construction taken while whizzing past it on Woodall Rodgers Freeway earlier this week.
AMLI's sharp angular top has yet to present itself ... once finished AMLI will look stunning standing tall next to its proud "rocket ship" neighbor! AMLI will look especially impressive from Woodall ...
Looking good!!!

Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
So, 8 more floors to go?
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Really starting to look tall!
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
This may seem crazy, but if there are only 8 floors left, are we still feeling good that the angled top is going to look as sharp as in the renderings? I think it looks awesome regardless, but just curious when that shape will start to appear.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
I think there’s less than 8 floors left at this point.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
^^^oh ok great. I believe the angled portion will be some sort of steel structure placed on top. It looks that way from the still photos from the construction animation. I don’t think it will be habitable, meaning it will not have residential units.

Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
The top of the structure is just a design element.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Yeah. I was just thinking that maybe some thought it was apart of the floor count.R1070 wrote:The top of the structure is just a design element.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
The renderings suggest that habitable portions of the building extend up into part of the angled portions (at least 4 floors worth).
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
They are on 41 and about to go to 42, clearly things are changing as each floor is taking on a slightly different configuration as they move up.

Checkout this screenshot from Dallas EarthCam, you will see the 3 red lines indicating:
1. current AMLI Fountain Place Height
2. Current crane Height
3. Museum Tower height
*This is just an observation not to scale of course.
There's definitely a bit ways to go considering that AMLI FP will be 2 feet taller than Museum tower and CityPlace Center in the background.

Two feet taller above ground level or sea level? Museum Tower's site is about 20 feet higher.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
True, we are in Ross Tower and look right at it. We are on 30, think they were even with us when they crossed 36.Hannibal Lecter wrote:Two feet taller above ground level or sea level? Museum Tower's site is about 20 feet higher.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Started working on 43, the crane should be going up again soon if not this weekend.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Will this be 45 or 46 floors? I’ve heard both.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
The angled roof line is definitely in play now, showing up on the west side they are about 3-4 floors into it at this point so you can see how it is starting to angle away from one corner of the building. Having said that I am still now sure how this building will look from various directions.
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Are they still working on floor 43 or have they moved up?
Re: Downtown Dallas: AMLI Fountain Place (562 FT / 46 ST)
Looked like 43 and 44 when I saw it today but would have to count again to make sure.R1070 wrote:Are they still working on floor 43 or have they moved up?
