Construction begins on Bleu Ciel condo tower in Dallas' Uptown neighborhood

Developer Harwood International is starting construction this afternoon on the first Uptown condo tower to be built since the recession.

The 33-story Bleu Ciel residential high-rise will be built on North Harwood Street near the entrance to the Dallas North Tollway.

The luxury residential high-rise was designed by HDF LLC and architect Wilmotte & Associes S.A. of Paris.

The project will include groundfloor retail space and has access to the Katy Trail.

The building is scheduled to open in late 2016 or early 2017.

Harwood International also built the nearby 31-story Azure condo tower starting in 2005.

Bleu Ciel will have more than 150 residences starting in price near $750,000 and range in size from 1,300 to more than 7,000 square feet..

I went to Southlake this weekend and noticed a sign advertising Blue Ciel off 114 near the airport. It said something like "stop commuting". I wonder if a ad like that will help the building attract buyers.

I was thinking this building was going to be taller than 400'. I don't recall seeing 390', did the height get reduced?

It's funny that the FAA site says 400 feet and 32 floors and the Harwood site says 390 feet and 33 floors.

Perhaps the 390' was all that was needed after permission for up to 400'. And, the elevator's highest button to push will indeed be 32. The penthouse is two floors, but, the 33rd floor is basically a finished-out, landscaped, accessible private rooftop for I believe two units. . . with pools. And, probably dirty martinis.

I like this building, height, size, placement on the skyline and it looks like it is going to be very popular but it doesn't seem to be as blue as I would have thought.

from what I'm able to recall, the initial promotion cited a couple restaurant types, boutique grocery, bike shop and some sort of piazza action to Katy Trail, also a significant sculpture. It's going to be very nice, very welcoming & inviting that's for sure. This is going to be the most important public area of all Harwood Dallas Inc.

On their website, it shows the pool level as being the 6th floor. Starting with that, and counting the floors in the photo above, I get to 32 stories. Reasonable chance that there is no 13th floor. If so, in reality, it's a 32 story building (and that's assuming there are really 5 floors below the pool level.) In construction pictures I've seen, the base appears to be more like 3 floors than 5. Are they counting below grade levels, in addition to a non-existent level 13 in order to come up with 33 stories? It's looking more like a 30-story building than 33.

If the 390 foot height is accurate, I guess we should have been skeptical all along about it being 33 stories. That would only be 11.8 feet per floor. That would be rather miserly for "ultra luxury" condos.

I've always thought the same thing! I sometimes drive by these just for this view. Is the empty land city owned? It would make a lovely little park. However, I'm sure it's just waiting for the right developer.....

Did they connect it to the Katy Trail. With VP finally getting some restaraunts, walking down the trail to dinner would be a nice option.

The connection to the Katy Trail from the north end of Harwood St. has not yet been installed, but it is still the plan to do so. The City is working with Harwood International on the mechanics of getting the connection built. I don't have an estimated timeline other than ASAP.
