Nice photos. I agree it does look a little out of place, but I really like it it's different

I agree, I think this one definitely outshined the renderings we had floating around here. I am excited to see the first pictures from the roof deck.

I still hate the design and I mean hate but the two positives are its an affordable brand in an area I would like to see this kind of development and at least we got street trees and a nice wide pedestrian-friendly sidewalk. I still wish they had come up with a design that engaged the street better.

But, at least it's not a surface parking lot any longer. Plus, it will be a positive, tax-contributing part of the DTD.

Still amazing how many hotels there are (and will be) downtown, after several decades with just a few.

According to their website, the hotel is due to open in September.

This one opens tomorrow. Curious to see if/how the ground-floor cafe or restaurant interacts with Ferris Plaza and whether that rooftop bar is any good.

Hopefully it will be. It may need a few days for bugs to be worked out. Still strange to me that now, all of Marriott's select-service brands will be represented in the CBD.

Doesn't look cheaper than a surface lot. Nobody is going to invest 200MM developing a building in a part of town that hasn't seen any construction activity in ages. This and the rennovation of the Belo will hopefully breathe new life in to an area that desparately needs it.

Just looks like a Picasso in a bad way. The design is all over the place. All the parts are there but they have been badly assembled.

Between this and the Lorenzo, we're starting quite the trend! It doesn't look great from the pictures, but I care more about bringing people to this area of town and perhaps activating a really underutilized Ferris Plaza/Union Station.

I actually like the building. It actually looks flavorful compared to most of downtown, which looks dull, beige, and bland. I just wouldn't want to be in there if a tornado hits. Haha

It reminds me of checkerboard. I don't like it. I get it that they are not going to spend hundreds of millions on the materials. But the color palette is inexcusable. I don't know what they were thinking.

It's pretty bad, but at least the sidewalks are wide and they added some trees. Hopefully it will bring more activity to this part of downtown. It would be cool if Cindi's deli next door would extend its hours now that there are more people in the area - that, and remove the privacy screens from their windows. It always looks like it's closed.

I think it looks fine, much better than the render plus it brings activity into that part of downtown which is still a net positive.

Up until today I had only seen the original building on this parcel, the Hotel Jefferson, in postcard drawings.

So cool to see actual footage of the building in restored hi-def 35mm.

Yeah, there's a weird expectation on this forum that development in non-prime areas should (or practically speaking, even can) have high-end architecture. Fancy design costs $$, and you're only going to get a return on that from being a standout building in a fancy neighborhood.

I love these old films, wish that building would have survived. Even remodeled it would have made a great Courtyard Hotel.

No sooner than it was completed and opened, the downtown Courtyard has sold to a Florida real estate investment trust for $49 million. Well, at least in this transaction, the acquiring firm doesn't have to budget anything for hotel renovation :D :!:
