More Buc-ee's!!

Postby jrd1964 » 26 Feb 2018 13:25

Buc-ee's, the bigger-than-life (and getting bigger than that) chain of travel stops, just announced another north TX location (to go with Terrell and north Fort Worth): Ennis. It will be on I-45 (exit not stated) and have 86 gas pumps.

Others are coming to Denton, Melissa, and Royse City (on I-30, exit 79: http://www.heraldbanner.com/news/bucc-e ... 496cd.html )

This is a fascinating place, lots of gas pumps and the large and very clean restrooms are very welcome. However, for me it is a huge collection of inedible junk food.

Just stopped there yesterday on the way back from Austin. I dig it, even though it's incredibly hectic, plus my son loves spotting the Buc-ee's signs in the miles leading up to it.

I like Slovacek's in West a little better, though. Smaller and more dense product placement, so you don't have people flying around in all directions.

I've only ever been to the Buc-ee's in Luling... it's the designated meeting and consolidation spot for us when traveling between CenTx and the Golden Crescent. I love the place and am fascinated by the retail extravaganza. The novelty candy selection is surprising -- they have horehound candy my mom likes, much better than what Cracker Barrel sells but not as good as she can get in Indiana. I don't remember ever buying anything else at Buc-ee's, maybe a soft taco (fresh!).

There's a convenience/grocery in Cuero that has best kolaches!

I've been to both the Terrell and north Fort Worth locations. The size and scale are just amazing. Tons of folk art and country-style tchotchkes. If I had a house, I probably wouldn't mind having one of their outdoor grills. I bet the north Fort Worth store does a ton of business on TMS race weekends. I ended up with beaver nuggets from the Terrell store. If I'd had more time and $$$, they probably could have gotten me for more than that. I saw a guy working on cleaning the bathrooms at one of them; I asked him was that all he did was keep the bathrooms clean. He said no, but almost all ;)

The Ennis location is due to open in May or June of next year, at I-45/Creechville Road.

Not to be outdone, Waxahachie will get its own Buc-ee's, at I-35E/Butcher Road. Neither article mentions a construction or opening timeline there.

Looks like TX isn't big enough for Buc-ee's...they're branching out into Florida (Fort Myers, Daytona Beach) and Alabama (Baldwin County and in Mobile) also.

I stopped by one of these one time on the way back from Houston. 75 gas pumps and lines at every one of them, had to move on.

Amazing. I would think with that many pumps, there would almost never be waits or lines.

I think people plan to stop at them, clean restrooms and the lack of food between Houston and Dallas makes this the perfect place to plan a stop. Get fueled up, load up on crap food and move on.

The Royse City and Melissa locations are set to open later this year, while the Ennis location is just getting started on its construction--it's now due to be completed next year.

The Melissa location opened this week. The DMN got a photo-op. Now there are 4 in north TX, with 2 more (Ennis, Royse City) to come. A third has been locally talked-about in Waxahachie, but nothing very definite has come of it.
