Frisco: misc. developments

Postby jrd1964 » 02 May 2018 00:02

UNT wants to locate a new campus at Preston/Panther Creek on 150 acres the city has acquired and set aside. It could take as long as early 2022 before construction gets going.

Of course there will be some who say it's too expensive, that it takes resources away from other colleges...

Plans for a UNT branch in Frisco raise concerns about straining state funds
Written by Valerie Wigglesworth and Eva-Marie Ayala

Frisco and University of North Texas officials on Tuesday unveiled a plan for a 5,000-student branch. But the plan to add one more university campus to a North Texas region already served by almost 40 traditional colleges and universities has some lawmakers and education officials vowing to look closely at the plan before giving it their support.

Some state leaders are concerned that Texas may be building too many campuses and programs when public funding is already stretched thin ... Paredes worries that more programs sharing limited state dollars would mean declines in higher-education quality overall.

Has UNT gotten their law school in downtown Dallas accredited?

^They almost dropped the basket the first year, but it was okay. Now they're working through the 2 or 3 or 4 year period? of students passing the tests that precludes final accreditation.... something like that.

Isn't Denton fairly close to Frisco? Do they really need another campus right across the county line?

Frisco decides it's the end of the road for its '$5 Billion Mile'

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/rea ... ting-pitch

Does this tell us anything about the future of Wade Park?

On a side note the person that coined the phrase '5 Billion Mile' is no longer with the Frisco EDC.

I'm happy they are retiring the phrase because the scope of the new developments along that small stretch of the DNT is already way over $5 billion dollars...

The Gate- $1 Billion
Frisco Station- $1.8 Billion
The Star- $1.5 Billion
Hall Park (with its future projects)- $3.5 Billion
----------------------------------------------------
Total in that 1-mile stretch alone: $7.8 Billion

With or without Frisco's brand new 7-acre hole in the ground (Wade Park), They were selling themselves short. Regardless, the $5Bil mile was definitely a nice catchphrase for the area while it lasted.

I do hope a more capable developer takes over the land where wade park's hopes and dreams once stood and THEN Frisco's EDC will have to coin the new $10 Billion Mile. Because North Platinum Corridor just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Construction begins on new project in downtown Frisco; more projects to come

...Nack Development in spring 2017 announced plans for several projects that would bring more retail, restaurants and even residential to the downtown area including The Tower at The Rail...

...The Tower at The Rail, 8763 Seventh St., will include eight luxury townhouses with rooftop terraces overlooking neighboring restaurants and retail including Boxcar Bakery and furniture store Boxcar House. Construction is expected to be complete next spring...

...The Patios at The Rail, a three-story building to be constructed at 7561 Main St., is planned to include retail, restaurants, office space, an event center, two rooftop patios, a park and a parking garage. Construction plans still need to be approved by the city, but the project could break ground in September with construction taking about 12 months, Churchman said.

...Churchman said The Patios has caught the attention of some international restaurateurs from Brisbane, Australia, who have signed an agreement to bring Honour Espresso, a coffee shop, to the development.

In February, Nack Development announced a third project, The Calaboose, on the southwest corner of Main Street and Second Street. The upscale residential community will consist of 20 luxury townhouses and more office space. The project still needs City Council approval for rezoning, but Churchman said it could break ground next year.

Nack Development is also working on building a new theater, called Nack Theater, on the southeast corner of Second and Oak streets. The theater will be home to the Frisco Youth Theatre.

UNT’s new Frisco campus to preserve natural, green spaces for learning and play

The future campus is now eyed for a 2023 opening, with fields of study to include business and data-related subjects. Green space, to include wetlands, will take up just less than half the acreage there.

This campus forms the cornerstone for Collin County’s medical district of the north

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/hea ... the-north/

It’s the newest medical gem along a 10-mile stretch of the tollway where Dallas-Fort Worth’s top health care providers are keen to capitalize on Collin County’s rapid growth. The county’s population has grown 30% in the past decade and now tops 1 million. State demographers say it will more than double to 2.4 million by 2050.

To keep up with the region’s population shift, Children’s Health and Cook Children’s are planning to build pediatric hospitals just north of the new Texas Health-UT Southwestern collaboration.

This project along with the Omni resort and the Fields development, Frisco will certainly have another population boom this decade.

Yep, saw it awhile ago when news first came out. Fields and the surrounding developments are going to be insane. Really hope they keep their “word” (Fields) and make it pedestrians friendly. Would love to see some sort of transit, even if just a trolley/streetcar.

Excited to see everything go vertical here nonetheless. Thanks for sharing the news on the approval, missed that.

And this is just the first building out of many on the 100-acre campus. Will be interesting to see how this grows.

That is such a... peculiar looking building, like a contemporary farmhouse chapel designed on the cheap.
The place will probably feel a lot like the collin college campuses. Are there any renderings of what the entire campus is expected to look like?

I'm six years late to this post, but I'm gonna raise my hand here.
Seems like a waste when the main campus still has a bunch of improvements it could really use. It's no longer the crumbling, nearly post-apocalyptic-looking campus i remember it as, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

Edit: found some drawings here:
https://localprofile.com/2019/06/03/unt-frisco-campus/

Looks like it's really just the one building? With just a couple amenities planned for the distant future...

Well I would imagine this is one of those if they get good use out of the current site and need more space they will invest more money in more buildings but if this online course stuff holds longer and makes a bigger impact in well-off communities like Frisco/Plano./Addison you could see these satellites just really be workforce training centers rather than a real campus. It seems weird to open something so close to the main campus but I get it I don't wanna drive to Denton if I live in Dallas either. Sure there is the growing South Dallas UNT campus but UNT obviously wants to make sure UTD doesn't get all their potential students and wants to make as many facilities where people are as they can to corner the undergraduate and graduate market in North Texas.

Coming in 2025: Luxury resort to partner with TaylorMade for 'boutique' golf experience in Frisco

The Bays Golf Experience and Suites will be located adjacent to the new PGA complex. It will include golf practice areas, a bar with a 70-foot TV, and a TaylorMade shop where guests can get their own golf clubs made on site while they stay. The resort will be built on 18 acres; groundbreaking will be later this year, and will be done by early 2025.
