UNT wants to locate a new campus at Preston/Panther Creek on 150 acres the city has acquired and set aside. It could take as long as early 2022 before construction gets going.

Plans for a UNT branch in Frisco raise concerns about straining state funds

Frisco and University of North Texas officials on Tuesday unveiled a plan for a 5,000-student branch. But the plan to add one more university campus to a North Texas region already served by almost 40 traditional colleges and universities has some lawmakers and education officials vowing to look closely at the plan before giving it their support.

Some state leaders are concerned that Texas may be building too many campuses and programs when public funding is already stretched thin ... Paredes worries that more programs sharing limited state dollars would mean declines in higher-education quality overall.

^They almost dropped the basket the first year, but it was okay. Now they're working through the 2 or 3 or 4 year period? of students passing the tests that precludes final accreditation.... something like that.

Does this tell us anything about the future of Wade Park?

On a side note the person that coined the phrase '5 Billion Mile' is no longer with the Frisco EDC.

I'm happy they are retiring the phrase because the scope of the new developments along that small stretch of the DNT is already way over $5 billion dollars...

The Gate- $1 Billion
Frisco Station- $1.8 Billion
The Star- $1.5 Billion
Hall Park (with its future projects)- $3.5 Billion

Total in that 1-mile stretch alone: $7.8 Billion

With or without Frisco's brand new 7-acre hole in the ground (Wade Park), They were selling themselves short. Regardless, the $5Bil mile was definitely a nice catchphrase for the area while it lasted.

I do hope a more capable developer takes over the land where wade park's hopes and dreams once stood and THEN Frisco's EDC will have to coin the new $10 Billion Mile. Because North Platinum Corridor just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Construction begins on new project in downtown Frisco; more projects to come

...The Tower at The Rail, 8763 Seventh St., will include eight luxury townhouses with rooftop terraces overlooking neighboring restaurants and retail including Boxcar Bakery and furniture store Boxcar House. Construction is expected to be complete next spring...

...The Patios at The Rail, a three-story building to be constructed at 7561 Main St., is planned to include retail, restaurants, office space, an event center, two rooftop patios, a park and a parking garage. Construction plans still need to be approved by the city, but the project could break ground in September with construction taking about 12 months, Churchman said.

...Churchman said The Patios has caught the attention of some international restaurateurs from Brisbane, Australia, who have signed an agreement to bring Honour Espresso, a coffee shop, to the development.

In February, Nack Development announced a third project, The Calaboose, on the southwest corner of Main Street and Second Street. The upscale residential community will consist of 20 luxury townhouses and more office space. The project still needs City Council approval for rezoning, but Churchman said it could break ground next year.

Nack Development is also working on building a new theater, called Nack Theater, on the southeast corner of Second and Oak streets. The theater will be home to the Frisco Youth Theatre.

250-acre Frisco project will overlook new PGA headquarters

The unnamed mixed-use project will have hotel, medical, office, retail, and restaurant spaces. The development will be be along Legacy Drive, near but not at, the upcoming PGA complex.

UNT’s new Frisco campus to preserve natural, green spaces for learning and play

The future campus is now eyed for a 2023 opening, with fields of study to include business and data-related subjects. Green space, to include wetlands, will take up just less than half the acreage there.

It’s the newest medical gem along a 10-mile stretch of the tollway where Dallas-Fort Worth’s top health care providers are keen to capitalize on Collin County’s rapid growth. The county’s population has grown 30% in the past decade and now tops 1 million. State demographers say it will more than double to 2.4 million by 2050.

To keep up with the region’s population shift, Children’s Health and Cook Children’s are planning to build pediatric hospitals just north of the new Texas Health-UT Southwestern collaboration.
