That is tough hit for Fort Worth. Definitely not a cost saving move for Alcon to move to CH, but if the parent company is looking for geographic consolidation, there is not much the city can do.

Just when we've gotten used to saying "Baylor Scott & White" and almost all the signs have been updated, a new deal was announced: they're merging with Memorial Hermann from Houston. It will be next year before the deal is complete; a new name will be chosen by that time.
* 68 hospital campuses
* 1100+ clinics/care sites
* 10 million annual patient visits

California company moving HQ to Las Colinas amid growth, hiring surge

https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news ... linas.html

Another California company is moving its headquarters to the Dallas area. And this time, it’s one at the intersection of the technology and automotive industries.

DealerSocket is relocating its home base to Irving from San Clemente, California, in Orange County, according to CEO Sejal Pietrzak. The software company, which helps auto dealerships manage customer relationships and transactions, has roughly 1,000 employees overall.

The Dallas area provides some key advantages, including a talented work force, a business-friendly environment and a central location for reaching customers, she said. The moves comes after DealerSocket made three acquisitions in the North Texas area in 2015.

“It’s a great place to live and to work,” Pietrzak said. “It’s a great place to have our headquarters.”

Is this Tennessee-based public company planning to move its HQ to Dallas?

https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news ... allas.html

A Memphis-based public company may have its sights set on a headquarters relocation to Dallas, the business's job postings indicate.

Fred’s Inc., a general merchandise and pharmacy chain, currently has job postings on its website and on its LinkedIn for a variety of positions, including director of human resources, corporate; digital marketing manager; vice president of loss prevention; and executive administrative assistant.

The location listed for all of those jobs: Dallas.

If the company moves to Dallas, it would join a wave of corporate relocations to North Texas. At last count from the Dallas Regional Chamber, North Texas has attracted more than 120 headquarters in the last eight years.

There's already 2-3,000(?) in Las Colinas, so maybe if the corporate HQ is joining the U.S. Pharmaceutical Group, it'll only be a couple hundred more.

From 2017:

...McKesson’s new campus has capacity for about 2,400 people.

^^The PGA move is pretty significant! Assuming we'll hear more about it after the vote on Tuesday, but this is a pretty big deal. If there's a guarantee to bring at least 2 PGA Championships to the development, and some are even indicating a future Ryder Cup, that's big.

The next thing to consider is what this will eventually do to the Trinity Golf Course. There's no doubt that the PGA will hold a tour stop at their new courses in Frisco which could be a huge hit to the Byron Nelson I South Dallas.

I do feel like DFW still has a lot going for it, so perhaps we will see a second influx of corporate relocations. Even though we didn't win HQ2, it certainly put us on the map for sure. People also seem to think a recession is right around the corner, so, perhaps, some companies might be interested in locating here because of how well DFW held up during the last recession.

At this point, something as severe as a short, mild domestic recession might actually be good for North Texas. Places less diversified and/or more susceptible to property investing hyperbole would experience the worst part of a short mild domestic recession, but it would probably only be a slow in growth for North Texas. That's when the North Texas shining prize is even better, more appealing to new business and relocation.

Of course, profitability as low as $30ish per barrel of oil is a huge bonus for the state's economy.

Frisco, state offer more than $160 million in incentives in PGA headquarters, Omni resort deal

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/rea ... llion-deal

Tuesday afternoon, Frisco officials approved the city's share of an incentives package that would total more than $160 million — more than twice the $64 million Toyota received when it agreed to bring its headquarters here along with 4,000 jobs.

In Frisco, the association will anchor a 600-acre, mixed-use development that includes championship golf courses, a resort hotel, conference center space and the association's headquarters.

Its new home will house at least 100 workers and cost the PGA at least $30 million to build. The association eventually hopes to increase the local workforce to 250.

I'm an average golfer at best, but in the world of sports this is a pretty big deal! To get 2 future PGA Championships and possibly a Ryder Cup is massive. It'll be fun to see it all come together, 2 championship golf courses, a 35K sq ft clubhouse and an Omni Resort. Can't wait to see some renderings for it all.

I'd much rather see these companies move to Las Colinas than somewhere like Cypress Waters where there's very little benefit to Dallas. At least in Las Colinas employees can live along the Orange Line and encourage some connective tissue to develop between the two cities.

I think this describes it well.

A lot of poorly run and maintained courses will fail and be re-purposed into something else (similar to shopping malls). However, the courses that are maintained well and in a good location will continue to thrive.

There were so many course built in the 90's early 2000's that it seemed like any new subdivision that didn't have a golf course in the middle was an outlier. The market got over saturated, luckily for these courses though, everything was still brand new and Tiger Woods increased the popularity so much that even the poorly run courses were able to survive. Now, you have places like Top Golf that can attract less dedicated golfers away from the driving range or a sunset 9, Tiger's decade long hiatus and the poor courses are set to fail.

Golf has been on a downswing as of late, which was inevitable once the Tiger Effect died down but it is not dying. Once the next great golfer comes along to dominate the game then you'll see it bounce right back up, it's just part of the cycle.

Beginning to wonder if Dallas will ever land another big fish downtown. Everyone wants to move here but not to downtown Dallas which is ironic because that is the spoke to our regions mass transit. Oh well suburbia wins again.

Re: Corporate Relocations/Expansions

Posted: 06 Dec 2018 16:38
by cowboyeagle05
There is a lot to be done to attract those big fishes you speak of and to be honest I am more interested in attracting more and more residential than some big corporate giant who will have a major influence over city halls decision making Downtown. I think the mistake people make with Downtown is thinking our goal is to fill skyscrapers with corporate giants because many people only focus on trophies to be seen from the freeway. I want a Downtown neighborhood and we are well on our way to doing that. Uptown is where we already get plenty of office development and lots of residential instep with the office. That's what we want. A place where people can live and some people can work. Downtown is on the edge of the development in Dallas. Its the center of the transit wheel but as we all know people in Dallas rarely live centrally distributed around the Downtown core. Downtown is a pass-through for car traffic and that's because we have designed it that way. Design Downtown for people to stay, live a life and the big fish will swim their way into town begging for incentives.

Yes! Totally. I've said for years that Residential is the key to downtown. Leasing has always performed well... and with what is happening in Uptown (Ultra Luxury and chasing out the bars), I think downtown is well suited to thrive.
It's the people that make the destination, and I will take the people that are invested in the neighborhood over the people who sit in a cube 9-5 any day. Besides, once you have the headcount, the employers will chase after them.

$3B company relocating HQ from California to North Texas

A global medical technologies company is relocating its corporate headquarters from California to North Texas.

The latest in a steady stream of moves from California to Texas, DJO plans to move its operations from San Diego to Lewisville within the first few months of 2019, according to a release.

The corporate office will be located at 2900 Lake Vista Drive.

More than a handful of people have mentioned that North Texas dodged a bullet when HQ2 landed somewhere else; Fortune 500 #6 McKesson was already on track with the move to Irving, and seems like HQ2 had little to do with that decision & formal announcement, but the other three could easily have been waiting for Amazon to formally announce where not to relocate (Long Island & N. Virginia)

This is huge for Austin, although being that their campus is out in the suburbs I'm sure there are plenty of people having a panic attack thinking about the increase in traffic. Apple isn't building a transformative urban project like Amazon.

Haha.. I'd say that is a little too greedy :D

Good for Austin though, that's definitely a big win for them. Obviously I'd like to see more companies come to DFW, but I'm happy this is still a win for Texas.

With that said, if this was some sort of killer urban campus, I would be extremely envious and would definitely want that in Dallas. An Apple suburban campus is still good for the city, but, for me personally, I feel like DFW already does exceptionally well on that front.

lakewoodhobo wrote:This is huge for Austin, although being that their campus is out in the suburbs I'm sure there are plenty of people having a panic attack thinking about the increase in traffic. Apple isn't building a transformative urban project like Amazon.

Yeah, rightfully so, as well. Their infrastructure isn't near the same level as ours, and, even then, we still have our fair share of congestion/traffic issues, so I can't imagine how bad it might be in Austin.

Puzzling location, but okay I guess if they don't have a large creative staff at HQ. Maybe being close to UNT's fashion program will help them, but I can't think of a weirder location for a fashion industry/design company to locate their HQ in the metroplex.
