Cellphone, Cable, Internet - a viewing melting pot... in Dallas

Postby tamtagon » 23 Oct 2016 09:23

So, ATT looks to buy Time-Warner. Verizon and Comcast are handfasting. Disney is up to something, 21 Century Fox is on the prowl... the big 'Content Providers' and 'Content Deliverers' have been buying up the rest of the world to fortify themselves with whatever puzzle pieces could possibly be critical to owning a big chunk of what people watch and how they watch it.

Eventually, the corporate meat grinder and binder will settle down, having reshaped entire industries. The real treat then begins as the monoliths reseed by spinning off 'non-core' operations jettisoned to make it or break it.

It's a crap-shoot trying to figure how the government will respond all this.

With ATT staying in Downtown Dallas, we may actually see some new industries grow in the neighborhood. Even though content creation will not have a corporate relocation to Dallas.... there's likely to be a measurable boost in the downtown area technology worker workforce. The city's central location in North America may be a potent a factor in bringing content production to the area as anything.

...Stephenson and Bewkes think the acquisition will open new ways to marry content and distribution that will reach and attract new customers. The goal isn't just to grow, but to accelerate the evolution of the overall company beyond traditional business models, Bewkes said.

...Comcast attempted a similar merging of content and distribution with its 2011 acquisition of NBCUniversal

A new type of Technology Company, synergzing mobile computer usage, creative content desirability measurements, with time & location relevance to attract new customers and improve targeted personalized advertisements.

Data analysts, network renovators, programmers, marketing scientists with mine the data created by these mega-mergers and in the end will collectively conclude a truly satisfied customer only happens when the creation, distribution and usage vessel are independent entities. Could take decades.... Manufacturing may be the next workgroup to enter the meat grinder.... all this trying to answer the same question retailers have been asking literally since buying and selling began, how to earn customer loyalty and trust.

Dallas has been and ideal test market for understanding typical consumer behavior, and will continue to be; looks like the area poised to lead the formulation of new customer service umbrella industry. The actual marriage coming from this corporate bloat entry will be ability & understanding. Exciting opportunity and potential, the "start-up scene" is likely to flourish while supplying ideas to ATT. The push to rebuild greater downtown into a magnet of activity, large crowds of people enjoying the environment is critical to the region taking the next step as a global city where culture is created.

The bigger this company gets, and the more product segments it enters, the bigger the group of ATT suppliers downtown gets. Toyota's move to Plano came with a very healthy dose of followers, and as ATT diversifies is products, I think the dose of followers to town could be much greater -- especially if/when Verizon echos the activities at it's Las Colinas campus. Stemmons corridor could become one of those dealios that get it's own moniker like Telecom Corridor or Silicon Prairie.

Would be nice if Stemmons sees a serious resurgence.
