Allen: Allen Sports Village (cricket stadium)
Re: Allen: Allen Sports Village (cricket stadium)
I was hoping that would end up (at least) in Irving. I guess the leading edge of suburbia is the usual place for novel attractions.
The city is considering assisting the project with a grant for infrastructure improvements ... a "proposed mixed-use development, anchored by a multi-use sports complex, training facilities and event center [with] 500,000 square feet of Class A office space."It also would include more than 1,000 new residential units, potentially including townhomes, condos and apartments. The proposal also calls for two hotels in a high-rise condominium tower and about 165,000 square feet of shopping, including a grocer.

Might've been mentioned somewhere else on the forum, but, no cricket stadium for this site. New development name as well (obviously?). Articles below are from way back in February '20.

I'd prefer to see a Cricket Stadium somewhere more central like Irving instead.

I was thinking Irving, West Carrollton, NW Dallas as well.

^Looks like it'll be Grand Prairie for the cricket stadium... and USA Cricket’s headquarters and main high-performance center.

Such a better location than Allen, strange for me to think of such a project in Grand Prairie as infill, but if it takes off, that's really what it would be.
Every new entertainment development along I-30 between downtown Fort Worth and Dallas strengthens the Entertainment Corridor Capital of Texas.... Is that horse track still open? The biggest missing piece in the Entertainment Corridor Capital of Texas is a new TRE route connecting Dallas Fair Park, Grand Prairie Stadiums, Arlington Stadiums and Amusement Parks and Fort Worth Stockyards.

Major League Cricket signs long-term lease to develop the first MLC cricket stadium in Grand Prairie
By: Malcom Chakery
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX Major League Cricket (MLC) has received approval from the City of Grand Prairie for a long-term lease to begin an extensive redevelopment of AirHogs Stadium as the organization’s first major cricket stadium in the United States. MLC’s parent company, American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) – in partnership with USA Cricket, the national governing body for cricket in the United States – has retained internationally renowned design firm HKS to repurpose and design what will only be the second professional. level cricket stadium ever built in the United States.
One of the finest sports facilities in minor league baseball during its past life as the home of the Texas AirHogs, the soon to be renamed stadium will now become a world-class dedicated cricket facility. The site’s redevelopment is slated to take place in 2021 before the Dallas franchise of Major League Cricket, which launches in 2022, as well as USA Cricket’s headquarters and main high-performance center.
...
The venue will be a centerpiece of USA Crickets’ efforts to bring major international events to the United States, including regional International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup and T20 World Cup qualifiers, and International Series against Canada and other contemporary countries. The stadium will also play a prominent role in USA Crickets’ efforts to bring the ICC World Cup to the United States by 2031, the second largest global sporting event by TV viewers, in a process underway as part of a joint bid with the West Indies.
...
Cricket is the world’s second-most popular sport in terms of worldwide audience, attracting billions of viewers worldwide with a significant, growing US fan base. USA Cricket has 200,000 regular players across the country, with over 20 million fans and over 4 million regular viewers of cricket.

Grand Prairie to become new home of USA Cricket with $13 million stadium renovation

Not much new in the article from what I can tell, but It gets me excited reading about it again anyways
The first MLC season will be 2023, but the first season of Minor League Cricket is happening right now. They stream all the games for free on youtube if you want to follow the Irving Mustangs!
Last weekend's match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R48mzPGvFQA
I'm so glad I won't have to drive out to Allen to watch MLC. Going to Frisco for FC Dallas games is painful enough.
USA Cricket, in partnership with the newly founded Major League Cricket, will launch operations at the nearly 80,000-square-foot stadium of the former Texas AirHogs minor league baseball team, with alterations scheduled to be done by mid- to late 2022.

I like that more stuff is coming in this entertainment corridor, between Fort Worth and Dallas.
