Fund the Forum

Postby Jay9398 » 26 Jan 2021 15:54

Sorry to name drop here, but I’m having a drink and a tv convo with C Troy Mathis hisself right now. As many of you know, this here website thingy has been a labor of love for him for many years.

If any of you are willing to drop a buck or two into a virtual tip jar to keep this thing going please let me know and we’ll figure something out. It’s not in danger of disappearing or anything. Just trying to help a friend who carries this thing for all of us urban planning dorks.

Hoping to raise enough to merge the old forum posts with the current site. Troy is also interested in any professional advice from out lurkers who may be able to help. Cheers, y’all!

Professional advice?
And definitely gonna donate when I can, this site is the only one to have ever had a bookmark on my phone’s Home Screen in a decade. That’s icon status.

You all make this whole forum work still. And, thank you forever for helping keep the place plug along for 20 years now. That's a pretty damn long time. You all are the absolute best there is out there.

History:
1997: Started as a goofy website on the old GeoCities platform for free while I lived in San Diego. It was so basic, it might as well been a picture of a puppy with a spinning email gif. Well it was, except the picture was a skyline for sure. And, freehand html with well-intentioned frames.

2000: DallasMetropolis.com opened. Basic visuals around DFW and some building and project stats with intentions for more, however the U.S. Navy had other uses for most of my time. No forum at first, just a side project forum-like thing. Then EZBoard forum kicked-off later. To my surprise, it got some love. Also, around that time I had already been active on urban/high-rise forums for a year or two already - so there was some cross-over discovery going on.

2001: The forum after software change grew up to basically the style it is still today. In a nutshell. . . The forum was intended to take over the updates I could no longer do on my own as things were picking up quickly and the internet was growing up and like-minded people who were finding out related info on their own started showing up - interest found a home and it grew. At this time, I lived in Seattle. Later moving to Chicago area then New England.

Cheers and Thank You.
