Nintendo Switch

Super excited about this!

Wondering how augmented reality might play into the Switch and how the success of Pokemon Go could still be influencing gaming outdoors and in urban environments.

After Pokemon Go's success, I've been eager to see what else people can come up with. Perhaps Switch might open up new doors in this area.

I think it would be cool for an MMO developer to take a stab an augmented reality game. You could quest out in the real world, form guilds, trade with other players, fight enemies, etc. I'm not really sure how you could make all of this work in the real world, but it would be cool to see someone try this.

Some sort of badge-system would be cool for kids. Checking in at parks and museums, walking certain distances, visiting a Zoo, etc. could unlock reward points that could be used in a virtual store. I could see something like this being integrated into a new Nintendo title.

Unfortunately, it's is not known if there is a rear camera or GPS on the Switch. :-\ But there could definitely be Wi-Fi check-ins. And maybe a pedometer function in place of GPS. *crosses fingers*

Are these games some sort of mind control or something? I remember some Southpark documentary along those lines....

I'm psyched! I can't wait to see what games they have lined up for the launch. Hopefully the pro controller will have gyro functionality built in because it's the only way that I want to play Splatoon 2.

And I hope it will have some great interactive travel uses. Pokemon GO has been great, and I loved the streetpass functionality in the 3DS, so I'm looking forward to seeing what all this thing will be capable of.

Zelda Breath of the Wild really needs to be a launch title.

I'm also wanting a new Animal Crossing.

Absolutely. Portable Animal Crossing in HD would be a dream come true.

I'm counting on ports of Splatoon and Smash Bros, and I wouldn't blame Nintendo for putting them out considering how abysmal Wii U sales were.

It sounds like we'll find out on Jan 12th when they do the full reveal.
