Redesign 1919 McKinney site

Postby I45Tex » 10 Dec 2022 20:54

Until seeing the Harwood No.12 rendering posted today, I had never noticed, since I don't drive down Harry Hines, the possibility for 1919 McKinney to have a long clear vista northward up the future canyon of Harry Hines, of which it would stand at the south end zone.* Anyone want to post a sketch of how such a landmark there could look in the city?

What you're seeing near it now is the Hunt Oil HQ peeking over the rooftop of 1845 Woodall Rodgers

* provided that the 1903-1925-1933 Cedar Springs block doesn't get densified as well, and block its view corridor...

For future fantasy urbanists' reference 1919 looks to be over 1.5 acres, the Cedar Springs block on its north over 0.8 acres.

Their combined site -- if you design a sweet sweet multistory patio terrace podium, one which let's say is spanning Cedar Springs Road via tall covered-pedestrian-all weather lofty sidewalk-cafe arcade linking a new tower on either side of that road -- say all that ten times fast -- reaches a commercially very workable 3.0 acres
