This thread is to document any Dallas businesses which permanently close due to the Covid-19 lockdown. I hope it will be a short list but we now have our first victim.

The Gold's Gym on McKinney has announced on their FB page that they are one of the 30 company owned locations that have been permanently closed. All of the exercise equipment has been moved out.

There was a coring truck doing its thing in the parking lot behind the Gold's Gym today. Maybe you will get your wish.

That will definitely send more food/drink business toward the 7-Eleven at Ross/Griffin.

Was any reasoning given for closing the West End Station McDonalds? I thought that location did quite a lot of business??

Not that I know of. That's one of the busiest McDonald's I know of.

They did have to do quite the juggling act with legitimate business, and homeless/panhandlers/loiterers. I saw someone in there one time get upset that he couldn't use the bathroom without buying something, so he just relieved himself in the middle of the floor.

It's kinda sad that it's gone, but the weight off the franchisee's back must have been enormous. Hopefully the space won't stay empty for very long.

I know McDonald’s has been tearing down and then rebuilding stores. I know of three in the Irving area. Could it be that this location is being remodeled?

Hopefully that's the case, but the sign was removed. Idk.

Why good riddance? That place was a pivotal business for that block. Everyone should want business to thrive; especially in transit focused locations

McDonalds made up the entire block. And the majority of the customers who weren't loitering there, used the drive-thru.

Which location are yall referring to cause the West End station location doesn't have a drive-thru. There are two McDonalds nearby one near the courthouse the other a walkup location right at the station.

Lower Greenville has been hit the hardest this week, at least so far. A gastropub with a beautiful patio that opened in 2018, Laurel Tavern, has closed. Eastside Social, a neighborhood bar with a rooftop patio that just opened last year, has suffered the same fate. Same goes for the Wah Wah Room, Eastside Social’s private side room bar that is modeled after a recording studio from the 1970s

In West Dallas, The Foundry, a bar known for particularly great free outdoor live music on weekends, has also closed for good along with Chicken Scratch, the restaurant it is paired with. Owner Christopher Zielke said “it was a fun ride,” but his business “couldn’t survive a lost spring.”

Near downtown Dallas, Ross & Hall Kitchen + Beer Garten, which just opened last year, has announced its closure.

And in Cedar Hill, David’s Seafood Grill has also closed after 14 years.

We’ve previously reported other closures during the pandemic, including high-profile spots like Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck and Bird Cafe.

Those Greenville Ave spots all have the same owner, so it makes sense they all went down together. Laurel Tavern (+ Wah Wah Room) has actually been for sale for some time. Their pre-pandemic $199K price tag seemed surprisingly low considering they were profitable, but maybe the cost of Eastside Social's construction was too much for them. Even before the pandemic it was clear things weren't going according to plan.

Hopefully, when all this is behind us, there will be no more new restaurants/bars with "social" in the name.

This place never had enough traffic from what I saw. The building and layout is nice but for some reason the decor felt sterile/fake. Tough to compete with eastbound and down is just a few streets over.

Wish the former owners the best of luck through, appreciate them trying to start up another establishment on Ross.

Here's an article about the restaurant's history.

Rob Lowe, Brooke Shields and a princess dined when Dakota’s Steakhouse was Dallas’ sizzling spot
Dakota’s Steakhouse leaves behind a rich history of fine dining and exquisite parties.

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/2020/05 ... ling-spot/

“The restaurant is located under the city-owned street -- a technicality that allows liquor service because the Lincoln Plaza, just across the street and connected by an underground tunnel, is built on property purchased from the First Baptist Church that is deed restricted to prohibit the sale of booze.”

Even though Iron Cactus wasn't the best, it's pretty disappointing to see this one go. Right now, only Chop House Burger is holding down the corner of Main & Akard. Went by today, and Pegasus Plaza Park is pretty much a homeless camp. I really do feel for the homeless though - it's not a bad place to hang out. It's a totally different vibe when you have ATT Discovery District just a block away.

Pegasus Plaza was Dallas first reattempt at cultivating downtown gathering space. For a time it was basically the only thing Main Street had going for it along with Iron Cactus taking that premiere spot facing it. It still seems like Downtown Dallas Inc needs to plan the evolution of Pegasus Plaza. DART has plans though to disassemble Pegasus Plaza store it off site and use the land for Commerce street Station construction staging. Then rebuild Pegasus plaza around a new grand subway entrance including as much of the original elements as possible. Honestly sounds good to me, Pegasus Plaza needs a new purpose now that we have working parks Downtown.

It's cool to contrast Pegasus Plaza with the Discovery District and to see how far the Downtown area has come as far as public gathering spaces!

Dallas Comedy House Closing After 11 Years of Shows, Festivals and Laughs

A Dallas comedy institution just announced it will be closing its red doors for the last time.

Amanda Austin, the owner and founder of The Dallas Comedy House (DCH) in Deep Ellum, announced on her Facebook page that she's made the difficult decision to the close the comedy theater.

"I hope it's more sweet than bitter for you, as it is for me," Austin wrote. "I have laughed more during this DCH journey than most people will laugh in 10 lifetimes, and I wouldn't have it another way."

Main Street has gone from being the premier street downtown to being a dead zone. It’s a real shame as it had so much potential. 4510, dude sweet chocolate, iron cactus, Dallas fish market, traffic (not all names are correct), seem to be closed. Thank god for the National and AT&T discovery district.

Yeah, it's pretty sad. I think Dude Sweet Chocolate just has temporary hours. Queso Beso is temporarily closed too. La Tarte Tropezienne seems to be doing really well, Chop House Burger and Freshii are still open.
