Why is there a tree on top of Uptown Dallas' newest office tower?

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/rea ... fice-tower

What it really means is that the 540,000-square-foot office tower being developed by Trammell Crow Co. and Metropolitan Life Insurance is still on track to open later this year.
Construction on the 32-story residential tower being built next door still has a ways to go.

This project finally got its fourth tower crane. It is near the Woodall Rodgers/Olive corner and will be used for the mid-rise part of the residential building. It is much shorter than the other three and kinda cute.

The glass is definitely darker than it appears in CTroyMathis' photo but I wouldn't call it black either.

When I see it up close the tower always looks more silver to me, in that pic it is very dark.

That's because youre seeing two different types of reflections. From the air looking down it's reflecting the ground around it, and looking at from street level you're bound to see a reflection of the sky, resulting in this light and dark effect.

Finally got a good look at this one plus 1900 Pearl while driving down Pearl today and was struck at the overall blackness of the glass on both of them.

I wish the glass wouldn't have been so close in color between the two developments.

They do look very similar, I had hoped 1900 would be blue as in the rendering but it definitely is not.

On the other hand, I am struck by the visual gateway the two buildings form as you enter town on Woodall from the east. It is an impressive entrance now.

(But I still wish 1900 was blue too.)

I noticed this yesterday, at least Park District tower looks better from this angle, compared to the black tower. 1900 Pearl is awful.

Just wondering why this one is looking good while the one across the street, which is also a glass box, is supposedly some kind of abomination.

What makes every glass tower better than another? It's the design. The location, the orientation on the property. The skyline that frames its placement in the built environment.

The two towers certainly are very similar, though I do think Park District's is more visually interesting and aesthetically pleasing, just not so much so that one is great and the other's garbage.

I think the level of uninteresting architecture is similar; sliced boxes with fin feature, platform terrace, overlay/inlay right angles and shiny glass. The buildings across the park from each other have a typical somewhat above average look that's so common in the area there's nothing special. Just uninteresting. Disappointing building next to the expensive park. 1900 is abominable because it's inside the Arts District shoulder-to-shoulder with our highly touted collection of starchitecture.

That (expectations) may have a lot to do with why most people don't like 1900. Plop it somewhere in Uptown or a lower profile part of Downtown and I can't imagine many would object but in the Arts District, facing KWP, people surely were expecting more.

The expectation is entirely with merit. That park is a neighborhood investment of more than one hundred million dollars, and 1900 does the bare minimum to grow the investment. Perhaps not, though, should the sheer walls become a prolific canvas of projection art. Hall's office building had some sort of deal to display iconic scenes or something like that... even more abstract visuals than the Omni CCHotel displays -- which by the way is that still a thing for that other architectural disappointment? -- but maybe 1900 will save face with a nighttime show. I'd like to see art.

By my count, the residential tower has just completed the 30th floor. Two more to go!

They seem to be pouring a floor (columns and floor) every week to ten days. I expect it to top out in Oct.

The rendering on the banner on the fence shows the top 'floor' to have a smaller area. This may be mechanical space. A smaller floor will indicate that they are finishing the structure.

I will say where are the biggest investments in high-rise condo construction in Dallas? Around Kylde Warren it seems. Museum Tower, Hall Arts Condos, and PWC Condo tower. Oh and the Parkside Condos on the Klyde Warren side of the Texas Capital Bank building. There are a number of of Townhouses popping up in East Dallas and other neighborhoods but the only high-rise homeowners are around Klyde Warren.

But is it really 34 stories? It looks a little shorter than that. Just like the Bleu Ciel doesn't look to be 33 stories.

I wasn't able to get a photo, but PWC's name and logo have been added to the top of the office tower.
