The proposed tower would be constructed adjacent to the Deep Ellum DART rail station at Good-Latimer Expressway and Swiss Avenue.

New York-based Scenic Investments is asking the Dallas Plan Commission for the go-ahead to develop the 25-story building with 354 residential units. The tower would include about 3,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.

The building will include micro units and soundproofing

This new tower is encouraging if it breaks ground before years end. Maybe the elusive MIA Isosceles Tower will finally get a green light.

I'm glad they're apartments too and not condo units. Apartments work better in that area.

This will be interesting to follow.

Uplift is building a new Luna campus out near the 30/80 split.

And this building has a huge footprint. It's roughly the same size as the Pecan Lodge/Uncle Uber's block.

Thank the Lord. For YEARS this one property has always frustrated me on its location. Why on earth would you put a preparatory school amongst a bunch of clubs and bars? Leave that to Houston

I used to get my haircuts in the morning in Deep Ellum, and this explains why I'd see students walking around in the area..lol.

I actually don't see the issue with a school being here. It's not like the hours of the schools are going to overlap with the bar crowd, so it's nice that this adds some variety to the demographics in the area and gives people nearby access to this school.

A high-rise on this property just seems crazy to me. Driving down Elm Street is already a slalom course most of the time as you try to get past the various delivery vans and trucks, Ubers, beer bikes, buses, trash trucks, folks trying to parallel park, etc... blocking the lanes. Once the city converts it to two-way it's going to be almost impassable -- all it will take it is two delivery trucks parked across from each other and it will be total gridlock. And what about Friday and Saturday nights when Elm Street is closed to traffic?

It opened in 2010. It's closing and moving to a new campus next year.

As a follow up, this one was approved as of August 2023, not long after original post about it.

2625 Elm should go ahead and have it's own thread if it doesn't already.

Century-old Deep Ellum building to make way for apartment tower
Fresh details revealed about redevelopment plans; Facade, other parts of building could be preserved

https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news ... ments.html

A century-old former factory in Deep Ellum that most recently housed a charter school for about a decade could be mostly torn down to make way for hundreds of apartments.

New York-based investment and development firm RXR Realty LLC plans to demolish at least portions, if not the majority, of the 85,000-square-foot building at 2625 Elm St. to build an apartment tower, its first project in Texas.

The firm acquired the 2.25-acre site from Uplift Education for an undisclosed price Dec. 27, county records show. Uplift operated a charter school there, Uplift Luna, for about a decade until the end of 2023, when the school moved to a new campus in East Dallas.

Dallas Business Journal has learned fresh details from RXR about the future envisioned for the prominent site. While plans are still being finalized, the project is likely to be a six- to seven-story building with about 300 units, parking and some ground-floor retail, said Joseph Graziose, the company's executive vice president of development services.

That's not a tower, it's a low-rise apartment building.

Six to seven stories isn't a tower.

Culpepper's coming to Deep Ellum!
Iconic steakhouse expands to Deep Ellum
https://www.dallasnews.com/food/restaur ... llum-open/

The restaurant will serve steaks, Tex-Mex dishes like fajitas and enchiladas, and home-cooking entrees like pork chops with onion rings.
It will move into the more-than-100-year-old Continental Gin Building on Deep Ellum’s Elm Street.
[/b]

This is great for Deep Ellum. I've driven out to Rockwall several times to eat at Culpepper's. I had no idea a Dallas location was coming.
