Think the “max height” has more to do with zoning.

There is equipment on site now. Looks to be some drilling going on but I am far enough away I can't really tell.

Yep, we're basically down to those two remaining mega developments which will fill the gap with exclamation points!

Is there a development proposed for the parking lot next to the Link?

Yes, that's part of Hillwood's "Forum" mega development.

Update: I just passed through the area. The building is at 4 stories now. Sorry, guys...I forgot to take a pic. :( Hopefully, I can very soon.

Wow that's awesome! I haven't really been keeping up with development these days, but it sounds like most projects are still full steam ahead, which is great news.

Construction was never ordered to stop because of COVID on any project that I am aware of. It's more of a matter of banks or construction companies shutting themselves down.

Hopefully we can get a pic soon, there isn't a cam near by that might capture this one?

Oh yeah, I knew there was no order for them to stop. The economic uncertainity of the situation is what was really concerning me.

Excellent photo, and it is wild to think that we've made a great leap in density in the last 5-7 years (IMO) but there's still so much available space there.

Agreed. I had expected at least a new rendering of what the Harwood 12 Tower is going to look like.

No. Still building the garage.

Re: The Link at Uptown

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:48
by cowboyeagle05
Well, it is a skinny building and since they ain't burying any parking they are betting on the high profile that comes with a parking garage as a booster seat. Can you imagine putting even half the parking underground how short this tower would be?

Re: The Link at Uptown

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 14:01

With AAC losing parking as the area gets more infill, the parking isn’t such a bad thing. Hopefully it will be open to evening and weekend crowds to use.

Re: The Link at Uptown

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 14:57
by cowboyeagle05
Well the AAC is an interesting point cause the MAVS/Stars have contracts for how much parking has to be made available for their fans and the AAC center management company has similar deals as well which is why Hillwood who owns the parking lots and the AAC management sued each other a few years ago. That's when the city built that garage next to the DART station. So honestly Hillwood cant just fill in every lot with development without replacing the parking somehow whether that's by providing it in their new development or by building a public garage of some sort. This site isn't Hillwood but parking would be a way for them to make a profit im sure or someone like Hillwood could get an agreement in place to shuffle some spots into a private garage like this to loosen up grip on another lot.

Seriously, imagine having to traverse that, back and forth, to get to a top floor parking spot each day. Could easily eat up 5 minutes if you're doing it during a congested time.

They can put a drive-thru shop on the first floor that only sells Dramamine.

For me I will take a high rise with an above ground parking facility over an empty asphalt parking lot any day. In a perfect world they would build all the parking underground but the market drives the deal and dollars so I am fine if this is how we can infill all the empty parking lots right now. Decades later they will figure out a way to redevelop that parking if it is not needed and density is an issue.

Does anyone have any updated pics? Can’t wait till this is done. For some reason I’m anticipating this project more than any other current/proposed projects. I think it’ll look really good at night with its sleek glass modern design.
