Don't forget the Sheraton. Biggest example I think we have.

I knew this building wasn't going to disappoint. It's exceeding my expectations, which is unusual for Dallas.

Looks great! I feel like I'm only ever in the DD at night so I haven't had much sense how this is coming along. Thanks a lot of sharing!

Great pics! I haven't been to this area in a while, so I had no idea this one had come so far along.

Just took a look at Virgin's site: https://virginhotels.com/coming-soon/
and it lists Dallas' upcoming property first before the others (Nashville, NYC, Las Vegas, Silicon Valley (Milpitas, CA), New Orleans, Washington DC (Urban Market), Edinburgh (Scotland), Palm Springs), seemingly because it will open sooner than the others (?), with a date of this year (but nothing more specific). It says there will be "over 200 chambers" (hotel rooms), the Commons Club (Virgin's main restaurant-bar space) and other eat/drink spots (doesn't say how many), plus a rooftop area which will have a pool/spa/gym with a terrace. The Dallas listing also has a quote from Dunhill's president.

Did they nix all of the residential component to this project. I remember there would be condos then they changed to leased units. I don't see anything about them in this building. That area needs a lot more people living down there just like Victory does to make it all come together.

Seems like a very lonesome outpost, like the W was in the dead days of Victory.

I dig it, although I wish it were a bit taller. Regardless, it's quite nice that we are one of the few cities to have a Virgin Hotel, and I love that they picked the Design District of all locations, because this area has a lot of potential, but it needed a project like this to really draw some attention to the area. Not only that, but it might also bring more attention to the Trinity Strand Trail that's nearby as well.

They might have been inspired by the Cabana Hotel across the way who also has a similar exterior type of decorative perforated skin. The same hotel was to be demoed now being restored.

I wonder what crazy publicity acts they will have for the opening. They made a big deal when they had Richard Branson at the Ground Breaking this time I expect a circus.

According to this, there will be--but on a 4th floor rooftop area, not the top of the building.

Thanks for the amazing pictures! I had a chance to walk by this one a few days ago and I love how this thing looks from street level, it's a beautiful looking building.

It would have been nice to see them go taller and make more of a statement, but the Virgin sign on top of it is pretty noticeable and they did a great job with everything else.

I really like the hotel but it still feels to me very separated from the urban part of Dallas. This entire area needs to develop density in the future to make this property not feel so lonely and isolated.

It is separated but Downtown Dallas was built over decades and even with some nitro in the 80's it failed to build on the promises past density made for it. It was thriving and ultimately fell apart when too much happened too fast. It will take time for the Design District to develop its own unique culture as a place in the city people want to call home and hang out but its certainly already on the right path.

I'm perfectly fine with the fact that it's seperated. At some point, someone had to lead the charge and be the first, and it's a great sign that the Design District is starting off with a pretty big bang.

I like this direction for the Trinity Strand Trail. The adventurous design of the hotel exudes a bit of "resort on the riverwalk". I wouldn't mind seeing more of this along Turtle Creek.

Also, the gaybourhood isn't that far away and Virgin is the perfect brand for working with their nearby bigger events as well. Trinity Groves is lacking a hotel still as well and Uptown/Victory Park is across the way so I don't doubt they will pick up bookings relatively easily.

The painting/print of that British guard drinking out of that Whataburger cup is unexpected, and hilarious.

As someone whose parents grew up in England and entire extended family still lives there, I need to get a picture with that painting.

I had a chance to check out the Hotel today and I was super impressed with the space! Very beautiful and well done, and the customer service exceptional. I'd probably go so far to say that it may have been one of the most pleasant customer service experiences I've ever had.

I simply went in for a cup of coffee and to explore the new building. Ordered a pour over coffee, which they actually didn't have, so I ordered a regular small coffee which they gave me for free (I realize it doesn't cost them much, but the gesture was really nice and left an impression on me). As I was enjoying my coffee, the manager(?) of the Commons Club was greeting everyone as they were arriving to the restaurant, he was extremely personable and went so far as to introduce himself to me, shake my hand, and learn my name even though I was just hanging out in the coffee lounge and wasn't planning on eating at the actual restaurant. When I finally leave the place, the doorman asks me if I had a good experience, if there was anything he could do for me, and then tells me to have a wonderful day. All in all, every interaction I had was above and beyond what I am used to, and I was very pleased with the experience.

I will say that I generally don't hang out in nice hotels such as this, so perhaps this is the norm for this level of hotel, and I'm just now experiencing this for the first time. What I liked about the Virgin Hotel is that it felt very posh/fancy but also very approachable at the same time as well. I've been to fancy hotels before and some of them can feel a bit too 'stuffy' (for lack of a better word) and just not really a place that gels with me. This was not the case with the Virgin Hotel though, and I definitely plan to go back and eat at the restaurant there at some point.

Had dinner and drinks here back on the 20th... As mentioned, the space is very cool and very chic. The restaurant / bar is a great space. We thought the food was good but nothing great. As generally tends to be the case with big name chefs, portions are small and pricey but adequate. Service overall though was top notch from the valet to the restaurant manager to the hostess to the waiter. Super friendly staff!

After dinner we walked back into the lobby, which is quite small BTW. We talked to a young lady that was working and she said the lobby space was designed to be small. Their philosophy is to get you checked in and up to your room as quick as possible. We asked her if we could walk around and she was kind enough to take us on a tour of the hotel. Up to the 4th floor we went to see the pool deck. My gosh what a space! It was fantastic! Beautiful view of downtown. The pool deck is going to be VERY popular with guest in the Summer. Also on the 4th floor are meeting rooms and a ballroom. Up on the 5th floor overlooking the pool is the fitness center. Really enjoyed this hotel and would actually come stay for a night in the summer!

Virgin Hotels Dallas marks phased reopening

Virgin Hotels Dallas, one of the newest additions to the Design District, is marking its official reopening with a fashion and art exhibit meant to drive home the importance of social distancing.

The luxury hotel is the third and newest hotel by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and the first to reopen from a near total shutdown because of the coronavirus epidemic, said Ana Lanzas, director of Communications and Social Media for Virgin Hotels. The other two are in San Francisco and Chicago.
