I'm not crazy about it; but if it happens I'll support it. City needs more touristic attractions.

It is also a live music venue and restaurants isn't it? The does the 30 months include the build time for the wheel itself off-site before they even assemble it on site.

This Ferris Wheel complex may end up being as big a deal for downtown Dallas as the Arts District. Combine the Ferris Wheel complex with the (possible) HSR Station & convctr complex and it is a bigger deal than the Arts District. But what about Fair Park? Most if not all the art has been relocated away from Fair Park, and the Ferris Wheel complex would usurp much of the entertainment potential; the end result at Fair Park would be a far more enjoyable and far more popular year round destination. Absolute potential to improve the scope and scale of Fair Park events, broadening the variety of civic events and participation.

We need to change the original post because the "Texas Odyssey" development is the whole mixed use, train station, and Ferris wheel project altogether. The Ferris wheel itself is called the "Eye-of-Texas".

The train station isn't a part of the Texas Odyssey. Texas Odyssey includes the Ferris Wheel, live music venue, and a few restaurants around the base of the Eye of Texas. The HSR station is a separate project but often included due to its proximity to Texas Odyssey. I am not sure if we really need a sperate thread for the wheel itself.

I don't believe I've ever actually seen it called the "Eye of Texas". It appears the promoters are calling it "Texas Odyssey."

According to the document I linked below, it states that the Eye-of-Texas is the name of the Ferris wheel itself, while the Texas Odyssey is the development that it is included in. Also, the Texas Odyssey is only the development on the south side of Riverfront Boulevard on the trapezoid shaped lot of land. I'll do some digging to find more info for the larger development across the street that includes the train station.

I suppose it would provide stellar views of the skyline and the competed Trinity river park (assuming that happens). Where is this in relation to the water garden feature that has been proposed?
Looking at one of those presentations either for the rail project or the ferris wheel you can see the planned water garden project is scattered around the ferris wheel, actually two draws here. The gardens will be awesome when complete. Maybe this ferris wheel is a good project planted here.

The water Gardens project covers basically all the ditches that weave back and forth in that area along with a few ditches near the Mixmaster behind some underutilized land there. It's a beautification project and flood control project to add value to the land Matthews Southwest has locked up down there. Keeping in mind what I lovingly call ditches are the original Trinity River route through Downtown.

Many of those ditches are the original Trinity River bed.
