Are they going to do something about those ugly power lines? Those open wire poles really ruins things.

I wouldn't say it looks just like but there does seem to be an abundance of dark glass going around these days.

I personally think that Dallas has had enough glass. We need more brick and traditional style architecture to add into the aesthetic feature.

You're selling this one short. The Union looks WAY better than 1900 Pearl! :)

Funny how the office tower resembles 1900 Pearl because I also think the residential tower resembles 1900 McKinney... pure coincidence, I know. Not that it bothers me because where The Union really does its thing is at the ground level.

This is my only problem with many of these buildings going up. They all look the same. Dallas needs more architectural variety in its developments, and less stucco, of course.

It appears that over the weekend they increased the height of one of the tower cranes. I’ve never seen this before so it sort of feels like my eyes are just playing tricks on me. Can anyone else confirm?

Does anyone know if the lot adjacent to this would be tied in to the Amazon HQ 2 deal?

From the way I understand this, the Hillwood proposal would pick up the El Fenix parking lot and the Jefferson Apartments, but not the site to the north which I believe belongs to Harwood.

The top of The Residences at Park District Dallas makes an appearance. Note the slight height difference between M&O Tower and it, even though M&O Tower is on higher ground and even given the vantage point.

That El Fenix lot needs to be developed so bad. I hope the plans in the works come into fruition in the near future.

Aren't the El fénix and the meso Maya building Historical buildings?

Firebird got the parking lots when they bought the restaurants and buildings. As well as they have done with restaurants, I’ll be the appreciation in the land value here is an equal success.

I would like the historical buildings to stay. I meant the two surface lots.

^Agreed. Meso Mayo is in a City of Dallas Landmark building, but the El Fenix building is not landmarked. It should be, and it should stay. Parking lots there could be redeveloped (to include parking for El Fenix, of course).

It would be sad to lose the El Fenix building - I know it's not groundbreaking architecture, but it's iconic.

A tower could easily wrap around the back end of the El Fenix building with a center drive that leads to a parking garage. Its a matter of the restaurant group and the developer agreeing that they are a positive impact on each others business. I do imagine though we are more likely to end up with a Cafe Express situation here where they will simply get a modern space in a new building on the site with Meso Maya building preserved next door.

The Christopher really does add depth to this area. I can't believe how this area went from open spaces to suddenly striking canyons of glass.

Some photos from last Saturday. What I gathered from the construction guys I spoke with, the restaurant space should be complete by this summer and the office building shortly thereafter. They're shooting to have the residential portion open by the end of the year as well.

The 22-story office tower at The Union Dallas mixed-use development under construction near Uptown recently reached its uppermost point — marking an important milestone in preparation for completion of the project by the end of the year.

This one has topped out.

This one will be a real catalyst for the area when the Albertsons opens. I wonder if we will be seeing the lot immediately adjacent to this, turn dirt this cycle.

All the artwork and press about the project up to now has shown it and referred to it as a Tom Thumb.
