Dallas' Sylvan Thirty, Houndstooth Coffee, is crowned the most beautiful in Texas
"International design authority Architectural Digest has selected the most beautiful coffee shop in each state, and it's a Dallas location of an Austin brand that takes the crown in Texas.
Houndstooth Coffee at Sylvan | Thirty gets praise for how its "soaring ceiling with an accordion effect and an all-white interior (with pops of heather gray) ... make the floating island — where all java drinks are made — pop."
To compile its list, Architectural Digest said it was looking for coffee shops that perfectly reflect the character of their surrounding communities, and noted that many are "tapping into design trends with salvaged barn wood, ball-pendant lights, greenery, and hexagonal tiles. That fresh, modern white-wall look is in abundance, too, putting yesterday’s run-of-the-mill cafes with mismatched furnishings and dark colors to shame."
The Sylvan | Thirty Houndstooth is indeed fresh, modern, and mostly white, with finishing materials that are a combination of white oak, walnut, Spanish cedar, raw and painted steel, perforated steel, and quartz. It was a 2016 AIA Dallas Built Design Honor Award recipient. The group at Official notes that the space was built for a 360-degree experience and to maximize interactions between guests and the barista."

Re: Sylvan Thirty
...you know, when CTroyMathis started the forum, like, around the turn of the century, we were collectively fretting that something/anything like this would stick at the West Village. and now, there's a couple places in Oak Cliff steadily building 'something/anything' like this and even in West Dallas. It's neat, that's all. the forum has consistently called it right, too, that's the best!

I don't think Coopers Meat Market is open. If that's the long-awaited meat market next to Cox Farms, we're still waiting.
The tenants here are solid, and we find ourselves here quite often, but IMHO the quality of the development leaves much to be desired. The parking lot is dangerous for pedestrians and cars, and there is no way that the apartment building won't look like it needs to be torn down in 20 years. This property isn't aging well, and I'm concerned how it will look in another 5, 10 years.

Re: Sylvan Thirty
I believe that one of the three buildings in Phase II will be a Chase bank branch, which makes sense as they're demolishing the drive-thru to add parking. Not really complaining since all of these stores need a bank for operating their business, but we're only looking at potentially two "interesting" concepts for this phase.

Yes you are correct, that should be marked as opening soon.

"This space will be a progressive and contemporary place for several smaller retailers and food artisans to serve our local community," Brent Jackson, President of Oaxaca Interests, said in a statement. "We already have half of the building leased, and we're actively talking with other prospective tenants to fill the rest."

Re: Sylvan Thirty
Sounds like another Food Hall-ish project. I wish them luck I know more than a few friends that live over there and wish they had more options still for food and shopping.
