I think it would make a cool restaurant and bar. It definitely needs better lighting. Hopefully a fresh new concept comes through. The area could use something like that. There's no bar in this area.

Did the other brewery in the West End ultimately fall through? I thought there was supposed to be one that went up where the Joe's Crab Shack used to be.

I think the problem is the West End is still pricey per square foot compared to a real warehouse district like the Design District where most breweries have been locating in Dallas. A tasting room is one thing but a full-fledged brewery location needs some decent space if they hope to market it wide enough. At the end of the day, it would be cool to have a West End Brewery brand though similarly as successful as Deep Ellum Brewery.

There’s a transformation taking place in the West End that's reshaping the critical anchor between downtown and Victory Park.

John Zogg, a lifelong Dallas resident and managing director of Crescent Real Estate, has seen the West End through many incarnations. But this tranformation, he says, is different.

“Today, you see highly capitalized owners coming in and buying the assets. What they've done over the last three to five years is pour millions upon millions of dollars into those assets,” Zogg said.

“Over the last three years, there has been more capital spent in the West End than in the previous 30 years combined.”

There are new buildings, including The Luminary office building by Crescent Real Estate; and Factory Six03, the former West End Marketplace that Granite Properties reworked and reopened to tenants.

In addition, the West End is now home to the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, Uber's Dallas office, the Dallas Innovation Alliance, Dallas Entrepreneur Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas' Innovation Lab, Sam’s Club’s technology division, and numerous tech and other startups. All are relatively new additions to the district.

Now with Spaghetti Warehouse gone, there really needs to be another push for a brewery in the West End. This could be right building for it because it is way too big for one restaurant anyway.

N Lamar Street is what is holding back the West End. That’s where the traffic counts are highest, but the scenery is mostly empty buildings, dead storefronts and surface lots. It looks derelict if you don’t know otherwise.

More curb appeal on Lamar would pull people on to Houston and Record. The frontages are much like the building that Punch Bowl Social took. We need big attractions like that on N Lamar. They would do we well there and they would light a spark in the West End.

No doubt! I know a year or so ago, Community was considering a move. I don't know if that idea is completely dead or if they are still considering it. I'd love to see a decent brewery in the West End, with a nice outdoor beer garden. This building would fit perfectly.

Hopefully the park project will get up and rolling in the next year or two as well. I think there's been a fairly decent track record of downtown parks spurring growth in the immediate vicinity. Even Belo Garden, whether intentionally or not, is a neighbor to the newly-remodeled Westin.

The SpringHill Suites on Lamar has been acquired by NewcrestImage, the developer/owner of the AC Hotel/Residence Inn downtown and Hampton Inn & Suites downtown. NewcrestImage wants to renovate the 148 room hotel.

Progress! The City of Dallas is installing an ADA accessible ramp and a new crosswalk to better connect the West End to Victory Park. Thank you to David Blewett, Dallas City Council D14 for advocating for this welcomed and much needed improvement.

Actually, it looks like my question has been answered already. I've biked through this alley once or twice, so I welcome this change. However, it seems strange given that there isn't really a cross walk here, so it's a bit unsafe to actually use this.

Interesting, I didn't see that comment earlier. I've always wondered if it was feasible to just shut down this small stretch of McKinney Ave (between Record and Lamar) to pedestrians only.

This is the building right next to the upcoming West End Park. I'm not really sure what this project is, but it looks like some work is being done to it.

They tore down the part of the building that held the Stark Club. It appeared to be a later addition to the original structure.

The building is wedged between Woodall and Continental. They need to do something to get a walking connection to VP and the West End.
