Another "craft cocktail" bar in Uptown. Snore. I still think that part of Uptown is badly missing a beer bar a la Gingerman. Actually now that I think about it, the former Loon spot would be a decent spot for Gingerman to relocate to if they do in fact close for redevelopment.

Thats a great idea!
And I dont think the move will hurt the Loon because of less visibility. Its former location in that old strip mall wasnt very visible and it was always packed.

I'm okay with a cocktail bar. Beer bars are pointless nowadays... They've practically been canabalizd by Local Breweries and Tap Houses... The good thing with a cocktail bars is that each bar will have it's unique cocktail. Something you can't do with just selling beer.. somehow a small dingy tap bar like Strangeways would be great though... But a large beer bar ..nah...

I think if any bar in the area can make it as a low-key locals bar it’s the Loon. That was the spot for all of my buddies to hang the last few years just to watch a game or hang out, and it was for sure a chill place a world away from the Lower McKinney bars.

I do always find it odd when bars mention ample parking as a key part of the location

Such a waste and a major eyesore. The vacant building (that was the law firm) was meant to be demolished and never was. It’s in a horrible state of disrepair but the owners apparently have no money or plans to do anything. They won’t even remove the fencing. . .

I am really surprised Dallas code enforcement hasn’t cracked down on that vacant building. I can almost guarantee there are multiple violations.

Code compliance has been there and there are definitely violations. Not sure if they’ve all been dealt with. But ultimately I don’t think code compliance has any way to force them to demolish the building or do anything beyond basic “maintenance”.

Wasn't this building supposedly going to be razed at some point and re-developed into a high-rise?

The land was being advertised for a possible high rise I believe. I think it basically was just the owners putting it out there in case there were any buyers. I don't think a specific project was ever drawn up.

No, was just trying really hard to shoehorn in an "American Pie"-esque verse.

I was trying to think of a vehicle to rhyme with "Idle" (for the Idle Rich, since that did close), but couldn't come up with anything.

For what it's worth, that bar is owned by a father/son who both played football at Texas A&M and in the NFL for a bit. It's a horrible name and odds are it won't last long, but it's a good way to blow lots of money in a short time.

Everything about this is mediocre to bad, and the clunky name (I stared at the banner for a good 30 seconds trying to figure out where it begins and ends) is the worst. It's also grammatically incorrect. The possessive of a singular noun is formed by adding an apostrophe and s, whether the singular noun ends in s or not.

So it should be "Harris's House of Heroes." It doesn't look correct...but it is. Even though there are two people involved. It's a shared last name naturally ending in s, so it's a singular possessive. This would only be correct if both the father and the son had Harris as a first name. Right? ack! I'm even confusing myself. It's a sign that the name needs to be changed to literally anything else.

Context is everything. Grammatical errors on forum posts are fine, even expected.

They're also expected on family holiday cards. Incorrect singular/plural possessives run RAMPANT on holiday cards.

Anything, right!

Kinda like when System of a Down did "The Most Loneliest Day of My Life". Even if intentional, possibly cringe-worthy nonetheless.

In other news, I swear Crescent is still in no hurry to fill McKinney & Olive Tower Cedar Springs two-story side. Perhaps keeping their asking price elevated and just waiting it out.

Hey CTroy, you might have missed it but that space has been leased... It was announced back in October. This will be a really cool addition. I can attest for Hugo's as I've been to the original about a million times here in Las Colinas. It's fantastic!

Thanks, I do remember now having read that. I remember going over there some time after Malibu Poke opened and watch them finally take the corner space and split it off once again. So now there are two spaces on the end with the still large end (w/2 stories) not being worked on (also as of today no change). The smaller space (ste 150) is supposed to be called something along the lines of "Super All Day" (lol) or something like that. It was going to be called "The Jane". It's a work in progress.

Anyhow, here's to hoping the Hugo's does go in this year!

The other space next to HUGO'S is supposed to be some kind of lounge / restaurant but it has been in design phase forever.

Professional football player scores heroic bar in Uptown Dallas Loon space
A professional football player has opened a charming, family-run bar in Uptown Dallas. Called Harris' House of Heroes, it's a new spot from De'Vante Harris, who played college football at Texas A&M and was signed by the New Orleans Saints.

The bar opened on January 1 in a location with its own special history: at 3403 McKinney Ave., in the space that was previously The Loon.

Harris' House of Heroes, or "HHH" for short, is a casual, comfortable bar where you can get food and drinks and watch some football, but can also scale up with a DJ and bottle service.

http://dallas.culturemap.com/news/resta ... town-loon/

Not a fan of the logo or name, but that's not really a huge dealbreaker. I think this could have worked if they went for the laid-back, casual sports bar vibe, but then that last sentence says it can be 'scaled up' with a DJ and bottle service, and that's where they lost me.

Good luck to these guys, I suppose.

Walked by Primos this morning and it looks like they are about to open. The bar is in the same spot as before with an open concept in the dining area.

I liked that old Primos was comfortable and not fancy at all. I hope they don't go too far in the other direction.

None of those bars on that strip should aim for flashy/fancy/trendy. Just not the right spot in Uptown. There's a reason The Loon and Quarter Bar have outlasted the others.

Anyone know what's going on with the "77" place off of Henderson? It looks like its been closed for the last couple of weeks after opening relatively recently to what appear to be packed crowds.

huh, I haven't noticed, but I'm not doing my daily walks past the place because Henderson is still a dis-as-ter. It's possible they're suffering due to all the construction, although it's not like anybody parks right on Henderson Ave to go there anyway.

Also, a half-dozen other businesses on Henderson are gearing up for opening in the next few weeks (Uno Mas, Paint Nail Bar, Enrique Tomas, Barcelona, etc.) Henderson is weird right now.

On Yelp it says they're closed temporarily and scheduled to reopen on April 1. I hope they built that winter weather into their business plan.

Whoa... Mind blown with this outline.com . I didn't know that was a thing! I no longer have to try and grab a screenshot of DMN articles before it locks me out.

As for Primo's, I know the person doing most of the hiring. She's been posting lots of photos on her social media. Place looks great!!
