Downtown Fort Worth: Texas A&M Campus

Postby itsjrd1964 » 10 Nov 2021 15:12

Texas A&M is planning a new campus in downtown Fort Worth, north of the Sheraton Hotel and east of the Convention Center and Water Gardens.

It will consist of:
* Law school
* Education Alliance center
* Research and Innovation center

No date was given for the project's construction launch, despite the announcement of the project itself.

I figured this would happen after Texas A&M started selling off its Dallas research campus near UTD. Keeping in mind A&M still has classes in Downtown Dallas and of course their new building near Baylor Medical Center so its not like they have abandoned the Dallas lol. I just assumed with A&M being more rural in its brand a partnership with Fort Worth is likely while UT by way of UTD is more expected. UT Arlington still has their presence in the Santa Fe building but they also have classes in Dallas so they kind of split the allegiance to the metro.

Texas A&M - Fort Worth

Postby tamtagon » 13 Nov 2021 07:10

A&M bought the downtown Fort law school from Wesleyan a few years ago, and recently announced this major expansion. From the Fort Worth Architecture forumhttps://www.fortwortharchitecture.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7265#entry135858:

https://fortworthreport.org/2021/11/10/ ... ort-worth/

University, city and Tarrant County officials are announcing at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 an estimated $350 million project they say will propel Fort Worth forward for the next century ... Texas A&M had enough to create an urban campus....

The new campus is planned to be built around the law school, 1515 Commerce St. Two buildings, the Texas A&M System Research and Innovation Center and the new Education Alliance Building, will flank the existing school. The law school, housed in a former Southwestern Bell call switching facility, will be razed and replaced with a new building serving as an entryway to the campus.

The proposed redevelopment ties into the planned $500 million renovation of the Fort Worth Convention Center. Once the convention center revamp is underway, the city plans to straighten Commerce Street, freeing up land that could be used for the Texas A&M project.

I used to daydream about the possibilities of the A&M property in Richardson/Dallas, but having a the university expansion in downtown Fort Worth is so much better.

The city should mandate a park expansion of the Water Gardens as part of the Convention Center and Texas A&M campus rennovation.

It's better than that daydream, but just because A&M got land there doesn't mean it creates any strengths alongside any other research or innovation. They could have gone next to Cook Children's or in the Cultural District if they want an effective "Educational Alliance" -- https://www.unthsc.edu/

There is already a Fort Worth Texas A&M forum.

We need to merge this one into it.

"“The acquisition of the Oncor property represents an exciting opportunity for Hillwood. It puts us in the middle of one of the fastest-growing corridors not only in downtown Fort Worth but within the entire city,” Steve Aldrich, senior vice president of Hillwood, said in a statement.

The property is bounded by Sixth and Seventh streets to the north and south and Calhoun and Jones streets to the east and west. There are currently two buildings and parking areas on the site that Oncor has owned for decades."
