I have been following this project silently but they still have to raise a lot of money to do anything but now that its announced they can go to groups and people who are willing to donate and point to solid plans and renderings. They are basically turning the old Forest Theater into a South Dallas Arts Center/Community Center with some affordable housing in a future phase.

Two local homebuilders are collaborating on a housing project in the Jeffries-Meyers section of South Dallas. They approached the city about putting up duplexes on the previously run-down/vacant blocks. It will definitely look better there (just off Malcolm X and south of DART's main light rail yard) than it has been in a long time.

No actual news to report, but, keep MLK @ Colonial in South Dallas on your long-term radar. Just put it up on the shelf to check to see if something happens later. No links. Well, except this mundane/non-de script one: https://cityofdallas.legistar.com/Legis ... s=&Search=

Renovations begin on South Dallas’ historic Forest Theater

Forest Forward, a local non-profit which acquired the theater complex 7 years ago, held a groundbreaking this week to commence a long-planned renovation of the complex. The old main theater space will become a concert hall, while former adjacent storefronts will be repurposed as an arts education hub. Mixed-income housing is also part of the project; it will be located somewhere nearby. The renovation completion is set for December of next year.
