New Olive Garden planted in Oak Cliff marks restaurant growth spurt
https://www.dallasnews.com/business/res ... owth-spurt

The new Olive Garden, which officially opened last week, is the third major draw to open in The Canyon in Oak Cliff, a mixed-use development that also has a new Buffalo Wild Wings and the Residence Inn by Marriott Dallas at The Canyon, a 103-room extended stay hotel that opened in April.

"We convinced the restaurant chains that there's a market here," he said. "It wasn't easy because there was nothing else there to convince the Buffalo Wild Wings and Olive Garden to take the risk and build a store here and [to feel] it would succeed. We knew it, I knew it from the market.

Not that I am a huge fan of Olive Garden but I am surprised they needed to be convinced. Besides the obvious lack of restaurants in that area it appears that those at Cockrell Hill have thrived and the amount of traffic passing by on I-30 is significant.

Any news on if this is going to happen. I saw the plans but I still see a giant for sale sign.

Not a lot of activity going on inside the Canyon but they are building a QuikTrip across the street from Olive Garden so that entire hillside has been scraped.

Something happening here. Zoning case Z201-159, looks like office and MF residential. In the 3-25 Plan Commission.

Drove by here this morning, noticed a large crane has been erected up on top of the hill overlooking the Canyon property. Looks like maybe it might front Westmoreland but not sure. Think it is fairly new since I don't recall seeing it even last week. Anybody know?

I'm still a little surprised how lackluster this development has turned out to be. I always thought eventually a grocery store would sign as an anchor, maybe Kroger or gasp..HEB; seemed to me, a perfect location. Yet for years, it's still been the same two dull chain restaurants and the Residence Inn (which almost always ends up going downhill). You would think the residents in that area would love another affordable grocery option besides that horrible Walmart up the freeway; not to mention the tons of traffic that passes by daily.

It’s damp. Since 2012 you can buy beer and wine here; for liquor you can drive 5 mins to Cockrell Hill which voted to sell liquor that same year.

Still holding out hope for this development to one day realize its full potential. That's all.
