That stone base makes it look like a castle. This is a very petty complaint, but I wish they could have put some lighting or portholes or something in the castle portion, as that is going to be imposing when passing by on the sidewalk.

You mean the standard design features of the Harwood DIstrict aka imposing buildings with no street level pedestrian walkability. But they do market it as a live work play community so there's that...

Thank God. Those were such eyesores. This would be a great residential/hotel lot. I wonder whatever happened to the development on the lot of the Oliver.

Mmmm, its a pretty neat building, but I don't think it's as impressive as the renderings. Maybe I need to see it in person.

Got up close to this one last night. The side facing Harry Hines lacks visual interest from the street level, but once you turn the corner, the sidewalks are wide with trees, and the building is more inviting and interesting. I'm not sure if the surface lot is final or not - the sidewalk here doesn't look anything like the rest of the project.

I still say that giant rock wall should be an amenity - either a decorative waterfall fountain or a climbing wall.

Not counting the side with the stupid surface lot, those are some of the nicest sidewalks in Uptown!

That surface lot is the epitome of Dallas. All sub-arterial roads around Harwood should be narrowed to allow for slanted parking.

That tiny surface lot is such a waste.

And I wish the building was more monochrome. The horizontal brown accents clash with the window color and makes the building noisy to look at. I love the shape overall, though.

In many ways the Rolex Building is the anti-Dallas because of its modest size and contextual design. As architecture, the composition is clear and to the point, commanding one to discover details and intricacies. Not all of these discoveries are deeply satisfying, but they still manage to provoke thoughts and conversations often absent from similar projects in the region. But on the whole, the Rolex Building is a welcome addition to Dallas that is worthy of a visit, and an example that developers should internalize.

Always happy to hear the rare positive impression from a visitor though. Dallas does shine at night. He did great work on this building.

Not to mention this was a fluff piece, not a hard-hitting investigative report. If you are an architect who is a person who wants to pick up more work in a city like Dallas you say something nice and move on. Not suggesting it is a lie just you say something positive and move on.
