Uptown Dallas: West Village Retail

Postby uptown74 » 06 Jun 2023 22:32

2 recent closings in the West Village: Honest Taco (Old Taco Diner spot) and Hugos Invitados (Old Mi Cocina spot).

Both were there only about a year?

Also noticed the Primos MX Kitchen down the street is permanently closed and being replaced by a Mediterranean spot.

Wow.

That whole area needs to build up and create more density. To many disparate lots and old buildings. Needs to connect more to Uptown and be walkable. Area really needed that Central Market mixed use project to center area as a destination.

To offer a different perspective, we have three new openings.

A new Mexican concept with Matt McCallister ‘consulting’, a cocktail bar from the team behind Namo and the Mediterranean concept offered above. All three have a much higher culinary pedigree than the places ‘lost’. Looks to be a net positive overall.

With that being said, the housing options in the immediate area are lackluster, aging or both.

Wasn't there a plan years ago to tear down the "older" townhouse development north of West Village and replace it with highrise residential buildings? It's a shame that didn't happen.

Years ago, West Village was one of my favorite spots to just shop and hang out in Dallas. Now, I never go there. Most of the stores and eateries I liked are gone and I just don't think about it much anymore.

I just hope whatever opens in those spaces isn't two of the same concept as we've seen in the past. Let's mix it up some!

There was a lot less competition for walkable areas back when West Village was more newer and shinier. It's still a great place to hang out, but definitely needs a lot more residential in the surrounding area at this point.

The Central Market development really would have helped here. I'm not too worried about the area though, it's definitely not where it used to be, but still has a lot going for it.

West Village lost momentum. The abandoned Central Market project, horrible CVS development, and suburb style Quiktrip further quenched the flame. The area needs some new housing/retail developments to really go to the next level.

A ton of the retail there is also gone. Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Loft, Gap, Club Monaco, and Tommy Bahama just to name a few.

And slowing down Lemmon Ave (East and West)
It is impossible to cross and drivers are flying at 50+ miles an hour.
Why is this needed in such an urban area?

With that, the closest Brooks Brothers to Dallas is in Plano, at Willow Bend, another struggling location. I really hope they build a new store elsewhere.

Yeah, I always think about two areas that are an astonishing waste of prime space - this one, including the Quiktrip, CVS, the abandoned TLC and men's warehouse strip center...

the second is the area next to the white rock spillway... the spillway is a fabulous area surrounded by a mini warehouse, gas stations and liquor stores.

That one at white rock could be the best. West village need thousands more apartments. Put the trolley turnstile at target on the other side of the highway, residential there helps west village, too. Trolley barn at Fair Park for next rail extension.

Trina Turk will be leaving HP Village to opening @3699 McKinney Ave, Suite 315 sometime around Labor Day.

I hope we continue to see a trend of regional exclusive retailers opening in West Village. It's nice to have walkable areas like these around here considering there aren't many of them, and so I love the recognition West Village and Knox Street get.

Hmmmm...I wonder if Trina Turk will have a larger space that can accommodate their Mr Turk men's line.

Nice resurgence for West Village after Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Tommy Bahama, Club Monaco, Loft, Lorna Jane, and J. Crew all called it quits.

From what I saw on their website their Highland Park store already had it.

Right! Trina Turk is nicer than any of these stores. Now, I hope Tory Burch will be next.

I don't recall ever seeing men's clothing there but maybe I just missed it. :)

Either that or it could’ve just been an error on the website’s part. I haven’t been into the store so you’d probably know better than me.

Galleria is definitely making a come back, it's nice they've actually seem to be getting better stores than even NorthPark lately. Although it might be bad for West Village to be swapping out one exclusive store for another instead of filling other vacant spaces (although Kittenish is rather affordable and fits right into the Galleria)
