Walmart is planning a new HQ that dwarfs even Toyota's sprawling campus

While Amazon was dizzying the world with its HQ2 search, Walmart was quietly mapping out plans for its own future headquarters campus in its hometown of Bentonville, Ark.

Walmart will build its new headquarters on 350 acres it already owns and where it's operated warehouses and office buildings for years.

To put it in perspective with large North Texas projects, the planned headquarters is more than three times the size of Toyota North America's new Plano headquarters in Legacy West and it's five times the size of the new Charles Schwab campus in Westlake.

Other amenities include 15 acres of lakes, child care and fitness centers, a food hall, coffee bars and dining areas on each floor. A hotel is also planned and the entire project has several sustainability goals. Each neighborhood will have bike storage, showers and changing rooms for cycling commuters.

It's planning to operate with 100% renewable energy with a central utility plant, lots of natural light in buildings and local low-maintenance plants outside.

Bentonville, AR? Really? I thought close access to an big international airport was important to companies this size.

Walmart has always been headquartered in Bentonville. They have been the primary driver to Bentonville really exploding economically and XNA having impressive connectivity to the largest metros in the US. Fun fact: NW AR has 2 other fortune 500 companies out there: JB Hunt and Tyson Foods.

Fairly impressive list, service has definitely improved over the years as Walmart has grown.

Behind the design: An inside look at what's driving Walmart's new campus

More on their upcoming new headquarters. Gensler has been picked to help with design. Walmart has worked out of 20 different and scattered area facilities there up to now, so the new campus will bring everyone there together.
