Lincoln Property Co's 6 X Guadalupe (pronounced "Sixth and Guadalupe"), this Ryan Cos BBVA tower, and current Austin tallest The Independent all have flat boxy tops. Unless their architects change that, they will all just be backdrops to the Railyard proposal (assuming it goes ahead) --

I always feel like something is missing from the Austin skyline. Maybe that Railyard proposal would help but I'm not sure.

That's great news for them!

I still don't agree about Austin 'out shinning Houston/Dallas' though..haha, but we're all on the same team, and Texas, as a whole, is doing tremendously well!

I'm aware of the inferiority complex  (Not that I view Dallas as superior, but it does feel like other people do seem to have some sort of complex with Dallas).

Looks like the article basically got the requested building height right for that 98 Red River site.
https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/se ... 81&row=359
(If you go that FAA link, look closely haha. Someone accidentally put Dallas in there. It's clearly this project, though, with correct county and project names also there. And, the map.)

On that note, downtown Austin has 12 buildings over 350 feet tall currently under construction.

Greater downtown Dallas (CBD and Uptown) has added/is adding 13 such buildings, since 1990 (plus another 1 nearby, The Crossing).

FWIW, in the same 30 year period, greater downtown Houston (CBD and Midtown) have added/is adding 19 such buildings (plus another 10 in the nearby Texas Medical Center and another 5 in the nearby Montrose/River Oaks area).

I’ve always wondered how many of these high rise condos are sold to politicians who have their money and influence thanks to everyday joe citizen. Same goes for all their tangential attorneys and lobbyists.

Haha, I am a bit envious of some of the height happening in Austin. However, Texas (as a whole) has been extremely stagnant on this front for decades now. Perhaps Austin proposing this tower may re-ignite some competition on who can have the tallest in Texas again.

Also, given how much space we have in the CBD, I'd rather take 4-5 shorter towers over one super tall.

Nothing would thrill me more. We can worry about skyscraper heights when it makes sense for us to build them again.
I'm less envious of Austin's supertall and more envious of so much being built simultaneously in one small area. :(

Agreed. They are in a place where they are running out of space which means a super tall makes sense, which is a great problem to have.

It's definitely a double edged sword that we have so much space in urban Dallas. On the one hand, I'm excited to see that our urban core could be so much more, on the other hand it's going to take sometime before we more bustling urban space.

Agree with the sentiment regarding taking 4-5 shorter towers (still would like em above 450' but beggars can't be choosers)... Do wish we could get that 893' tower from Hunt's Northend redevelopment... Hotel & condos? Yes please.

Just an FYI, I am adding *some* Austin projects to my development tracker in case anyone's interested. Some, not all, because adding every ATX project would be a full-time job, and I'm not a charity.

Austin’s Next Record-Breaking Supertall Tower Announced at Fifth and Trinity

https://austin.towers.net/austins-next- ... d-trinity/

Austin-based real estate development firm Wilson Capital announced this morning that its redevelopment of the Avenue Lofts site will be significantly larger than previously reported. The multifamily residential building planned for the 0.8-acre property at 410 East Fifth Street, now known as Wilson Tower, is set to rise 80 floors to a total height of 1,035 feet — and yes, that would make the project the new tallest tower in Texas upon completion, exceeding the height of the Waterline supertall project currently under construction a few blocks away by 13 feet.
