State liquor laws

Texas Legislature green-lights bigger liquor chains, but still excludes the biggest retailer, Walmart

Retailers, including Walmart, have been working in Austin to try to change retail laws regarding the sale of liquor. Apparently, the lobbying was only somewhat successful. Walmart and other big retailers weren't able to convince the legislators to let them sell liquor. Other liquor sales issues, like changes in limits on how many stores can be owned, and how many permits that owners can hold, are headed to the desk of the Governor. Another change is an older family-relation-ownership law that will go away with the new legislation. Gov. Abbott hasn't signed them, but they could potentially pass on through without his signature.
