Downtown Houston Crossed 8,000 Residents In April

Postby DPatel304 » 07 May 2018 21:29

Downtown Houston now has more than 8,000 residents, a big leap from 3,800 in 2013 when the Downtown Living Initiative first tackled residential need in the central business district, and that number is increasing monthly.

Plan Downtown, the master plan announced in November, called for 12,000 additional residential units with the goal of reaching 30,000 residents in the next 20 years.

Haven't been to Houston in years. I keep saying I should make a trip down there and see what the city is like, as it sounds like it's transforming as rapidly as the rest of Texas is.

You should come down and visit. I like Dallas and wasn't look to move but, due to work, I had to and haven't been sorry. As with Dallas, there's a lot of new development and the equivalent areas to Uptown and Deep Ellum -- Midtown and EaDo -- are starting to happen though they still have some ways to go before they're like their Dallas counterparts. And Montrose, like its cousin Oak Lawn, is undergoing rapid transformation and many old-timers aren't happy about it. Different city, same story.

As for downtown, there will be something like four food halls within a few blocks of each other after the newest one opens in early 2019. That may turn out to be too many but it underscores the interest in downtown development.

I like the picture of the highrise in Houston more than the one building next to Fountain Place.
