Dallas Mayor Shifts to GOP

Postby KCHornedFrog » 25 Sep 2023 08:48

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced Friday that he is switching to the Republican Party, making the city the largest in the U.S. to be led by a GOP mayor.

I really could care less about the politics of it, but it was interesting to hear him say that "urban areas need more conservative advocates". Having one side dominate political views in an area really seems problematic, especially when that city is in a Republican state. Here in Missouri, there is a rural voting base that enjoys sticking it to the urbanites in KC and St Louis. Even when it may not be in the best interest of the state.

Texas may not have that issue to the same extent but it seems it would be better to have both parties fighting over the votes of urban dwellers. It'd mean more money at all times for those areas instead of just when one side is in power. You'd have to think it would be better for solving social disparities.

Curious to hear thoughts on this from those in the city
