I saw that the other day... Unfortunately, it doesn't appear they will be rebuilding the canoe ramp that was destroyed. That was a common put in place for independent kayakers as well as some of the smaller kayak/canoe/adventure companies. I assume they've already found alternative locations... but I don't know where they are.

Does anyone know if the new Ridgewood trail has a trail connection to White Rock (from where it turns north close to Fisher Road)? If not, what is the best way to get to White Rock and are their plans to connect the trails?

Dallas County is currently building the SOPAC Trail in the abandoned rail bed from Greenville Ave. at Meadow to where the Santa Fe Trail ends near the boat house. The section from NW Hwy to Greenville/Meadow is expected to be complete in early 2018. The section from NW Hwy south to the Lake should begin construction early next year with a 2019 completion date. Once complete, trail users will turn south on the SOPAC Trail after crossing Fisher to access the Lake.

In the interim, turn north after crossing Fisher, ride the trail to NW Hwy, take the ramp up to the trail (alley) that parallels NW Hwy, and ride that until you get to the White Rock Creek Trail at NW Hwy and W. Lawther. From there you can continue south to the lake.

Thanks for the response. I rode the SOPAC from Fisher to Park Lane (where it abruptly stops)so they are not far from Greenville.

I noticed over the weekend that some concrete has been poured for the newest section of Campion Trail. It'll extend the trail from its current terminus along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River (halfway up through Valley Ranch), northwest, underneath Macarthur blvd, and then west along Beltline up to Mockingbird in Coppell (not to be confused with the Mockingbird we all know so well).
So far, its only the section up along Beltline that has been poured. There is no sign of activity along the southern connection as of yet.

During the launch of the Jump electric bike service at City Hall, Ch.5 talked to Phillip Kingston about the bike lane situation in Dallas. He says the city will be doubling its budget to add more bike lanes in the next year, and he'd like even more than that eventually. The report made it sound like it would be on-street lanes, nothing about further paved trails.

Nothing has happened since February. It's a money play for real estate connecting the Katy Trail area to the Design District. The rest is a distant sideshow. One would think with all this dry weather that work would have been well underway on various sections. The reality is that the plan revolves around I-35 and the Design District. Some really poor designs have been floated around showing on street connections between Victory and the Design District. Very poor in design and some think it is a bait and switch.

It's a money play. It's a real estate play and it's all falling apart.

A complicated plan to connect Dallas’ Katy Trail to the Trinity River just got a big win
A complicated, one-mile connection extending downtown Dallas’ popular Katy Trail from east of Interstate 35E to the Trinity River side on the west is getting a big green light. The $22.2 million project, known as the Hi Line Connector, would link Victory Park to the Design District and Trinity River, potentially opening property west of the major highway to new development. A city of Dallas board in charge of providing enhanced public improvements this week recommended spending $11.6 million in tax increment financing to go along with more than $10 million in state and city funds and private donations to get the project moving. It now goes before Dallas City Council’s economic development committee and full council for approvals. That’s expected to occur in the next 30 days.

Another trail has been added in Dallas, this time on the south side. The Honey Springs-Cedar Crest trail runs along power line rights-of-way as well as part of a former Interurban rail line. It also is partially adjacent to Cedar Crest Golf Course.

Land Donation Helps Complete Dallas Loop Trail

The Dallas Loop Trail has been named as as recipient of a $12 million federal grant, which will complete the trail's remaining gaps. Meanwhile, Parkdale Lake, a spot along one of the trail gaps, will be upgraded once a $20 million bond issue is passed to fund the work. The lake was originally used to cool an adjacent power plant that is no longer in existence. Oncor announced that they would donate the lake and its adjacent land to the city.

Closure of Santa Fe Trail pedestrian bridge over Garland Road postponed
the temporary closure has been pushed back “until further notice while crews make additional revisions to the detour route. A new schedule will be shared as it is finalized.”

Bridge over White Rock Creek is complete except for the ramp on the southern end. Appears that they're building the main span for the bridge over Central in the truck parking area behind Conn's; presumably they'll pick it up and drop it in place when it's ready (gonna be a tricky maneuver to get it out of there). Hard to tell from the photos but at the ends you can see the pieces of the arches where they connect to the span.

It's going to be *quite* the production to get that put up over 75-Central. There's no support columns in the median for the bridge. The freeway would have to be closed, likely over a weekend. Maybe divert the traffic to the service road (?).

The arch has finally been assembled! Only took them five months to get around to actually doing it. It's not easy to see in all of the pictures, but there are cables running from the arch to the deck.

I could see some of it from Royal in recent days, as well as the top of it from 75-Central.

Now for the fun part--getting it over to the bridge pillars for installation. I haven't seen any word on when it's going to be installed, but something like this will surely be covered in the media.

The bridge has been ready but recent related work, plus scheduling the bridge move and installation has apparently been the big hangup in recent days. If the digital signage now showing alongside 75-Central is any indication, it will likely be this weekend when the big work starts. The message board says 75-Central will be closed on Saturday, but doesn't say for how long. Even after the bridge structure has been moved into place, there will be several days/weeks of engineering work to do before bikers and walkers will be open to use it. The article says it may be some time in October when the bridge will be finally ready.

Over the last few days they've moved a pair of big many-wheel very-heavy-duty moving devices (the kind of thing they use to move buildings) under each end and removed the stacks of lumber it had been resting on forever.

Driving by on my commute from work Saturday, I caught the work being done in advance of the bridge placement. The bridge structure had already been rolled to its waiting area in preparation to be craned into place. Many cones, barrels, and barriers were sitting aside both directions of the 75-Central service road, as well as Royal Lane, in advance of the closures and bridge work. It's likely that Greenville Ave., Hillcrest Rd., and Preston Rd. will be the favored alternate routes over the weekend while 75-Central is closed.

Sorry, there was more sun glare on that last picture than I realized. The multi-wheel rollers referred to earlier by northsouth, were present at each end of the bridge structure.

(I'm glad I don't have to work this weekend :shock: :roll: ;) )

Does that span even cover the length including the service roads? I'm thinking that only covers the bare minimum to cross the NCX main lanes and it sits on the existing supports on both sides closest to the highway and then the crews fill in the blanks over both service road sides. Not entirely sure though. Kind of seems logical.

The bridge has been placed, and 75-Central is back open.

Sure enough, per the video at the link (as well as CTroy's previous observation), the placed bridge structure only spans the main lanes of the freeway, and doesn't go on across either of the service roads. So between now and the planned end of construction in October, there's likely to be a closure (or more) of the service roads to connect the bridge to each of the approaches.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are allowed on the new bridge, but an SUV driver thought it could go onto it, also. Apparently there are no barriers/bollards at the street-level west entrance to the bridge. Eventually one is encountered, which may have been the only thing that kept the SUV driver from getting onto the bridge section itself.

Curious as to what everyone's thoughts on trails throughout DFW are.
Currently, majority of trails are more recreation-focused, with some being far more useful for mobility than others.
How do you hope to see the system evolve as a whole? And are there any trails you'd like to see built, expanded, connected, etc?
