The airport has been in operation for 65 years. Not only a general aviation airport (a very busy one, at that), but also some small-package cargo operation flows through it as well.

Although 4 previous instances of airplane accidents have occurred (1986, 1992, 2004, 2011) after flights took off from Addison Airport, no flights until Sunday actually crashed at the airport. A Beechcraft plane crashed into a hangar at the airport as it was attempting to take off. All 10 aboard died.

When I first move here I lived in an apartment in Far North Dallas that was right under the approach to this airport. I was more than a little nervous to hear single-engine planes flying overhead constantly.

A Houston-based firm is planning the construction of 4 new hangars on the airport's SE side, along Addison Road.

Also, a new US Customs facility, as well as new airport headquarters offices are in the works. All 3 projects are due for completion by the end of next year.

Addison Airport growing, expanding to accommodate increased regional demand

A new terminal and hangars for Galaxy FBO are under construction along the southeast side of the airport. All are supposed to be ready and open by this fall.
