Arlington: I-30/TX 360 interchange redo

Postby itsjrd1964 » 08 Nov 2018 22:44

The current layout of the I-30/TX 360 interchange is up to now, still a throwback to the days of the DFW Turnpike with an indirect connection between the 2 highways. That indirect connection was where the tollbooths were prior to the tolls going away in 1978 and the eventually-free highway becoming part of I-30. Amazingly, it has taken 40 years to get priorities (and funding) in order so that, finally, a full, direct interchange will connect I-30 to TX 360. According to the video at the linkie, it will be 2021 before the construction is complete.

As a part of the project to redo the interchange, a detour to traffic on I-30 will be necessary this weekend. The southbound TX 360 service road bridge will be torn down (because a new version has replaced it) over I-30. The detour will include TX 161-Bush Turnpike, TX 180 (Division St.), and FM 157 (Collins St.). The detour/closure will start Friday night at 7pm, and go to Monday morning at 5am.

At least there won't be a home Cowboys game this weekend to make traffic even more interesting in Arlington.

...well, the fans might still show up for the home games, but when are the Cowboys going to show up?

This seems like a really slow project.

The last few times I've been by that interchange in the last few months, it didn't exactly look like dust was flying at a dizzying pace.

Well, today it was announced that the last of the big ramps (TX 360 NB to WB/EB I-30) has opened, essentially completing the project. There are probably still some small finishing touches (painting, guard rails, signs, etc.) left to do.

I sound grumpy today, but I watched the I-30 rebuild since it started in the mid 1990's. It's bad, very bad.

The express lanes are never used and a terrible design. In 30 years they haven't hardly increased capacity through GP and Arlington. The new interchange is nice, but the rest of I-30 rebuild is bad, very bad.

I drove thru there last week and thought the same. It was finally open but still only 3 lanes heading west to Ft Worth. It seems like all that money and time went only into charging Dallas residents for a (tolled) quick exit from the stadiums.

Would love to see the freeway rebuilt from Arlington to Fort Worth. That section is very antiquated.
