I-35W - North Frwy. ("North Tarrant Express")

This project, which is adding express lanes along I-35W from downtown Fort Worth to the US 287 split north of I-820, is ready to open today from the Northside Dr. exit to I-820. This also included a total redo of the I-35W/I-820 interchange.

Now that the phase is pretty much done north of Northside Drive, drivers are realizing that, other than the tolled express lane additions, the free lane capacity is pretty much the same.

There is never enough money to keep up with this stuff. Fix one thing, create a new problem.

This is pretty much the interim configuration until more funds are available (around Neveruary 2050) to:
- fully rehab the 35W/121/377/Spur 347 interchange
- add 2 more mainlanes in each direction from DTFW to the 81/287 split
- add 1 more mainlane in each direction from the 81/287 split to near Alliance Airport.
- add frontage roads along the entire length of project
- add 1 more managed lane in each direction along the entire length of project.

*Definitely* needs it!! Awful mess.

Needed, but I don't know how they're going to swing it in some of the spots that don't already have them.

The latest.... looks like late September for finishing the main part of what's left to do. The work around the Belknap/Airport Frwy. exit will take till the end of the year; it got started after the other I-35W work did, and is technically considered a separate project, despite it looking like it's all mixed together.

Highway and construction officials have deemed the I-35W project "substantially complete" even though several small parts of the project away from the freeway main lanes still are not quite done. Most of the remaining parts include service roads, ramps, and miscellaneous items. The Belknap/Airport Frwy. exit will still be worked on for a few more months, as that work is considered separate from the North Tarrant Express construction.

Has the recently opened toll lanes have an effect on traffic? Especially since the free lanes are in the same config at only two. The many times I have been through FTW, never really had a traffic problem heading north.
