Re: Downtown Dallas Retail
Yea I'd imagine it's a temporary stall due to the insane amount of construction in the area (and greater downtown). I jogged through multiple parts of downtown 2 days ago (including this one), and literally almost every block is under some form of construction - both aggravating and exciting. Medium...

Re: Restaurants: general news/development
Very cool. Some good talent behind this one! Yea this area in between West Village and Knox has been quite the dry spot, aside from Komali & Salum. Nice to see something else go into it and helping (in a small way) to bridge two pockets of density/interest.

It wasn't mentioned because the article just focused on office, not residential. The Victor is just residential, unless you're referring to some other Hines office project?

Per this article (yes it's Steve Brown), Park District office building is already ~3/4 leased. Will be interesting to see which development projects kick off next...

I wonder if the ground floor concept, a more casual "bar," will be that approachable spot.

W.r.t. restaurants, I think a lot of the Union's momentum (at least with The Henry and North Italia) has to do with the developer knowing the guy behind Fox Restaurant Concepts (both based in Phoenix). No idea if the Park District is taking awhile or if this is normal.

DPatel304 - you're spot on. So much of Dallas was unlocked - at least from a dinner / night-life perspective - with the arrival of Uber. Our taxi ecosystem is atrocious on just about every dimension. So you had three real options: drive drunk, drive and not drink, or go through the annoyance of orde...

Many of the establishments named in the PDF brochure are <18 months old (e.g. Backyard), so wouldn't seem to be a dead project. This would replace the surface parking lot next to Angry Dog and Bomb Factory? I always hated that lot.

Yea there are a handful of 200+ unit apartments being built right now. Sure more will come. Given the amount of residential currently in place or in construction, I'd wager the neighborhood has hit a stability threshold and will no longer be subject to the wild swings of years past (i.e. Deep Ellum'...

Love it. No idea the quality of the place, but sustainable restaurant infill means a mix of places, not just $$$-$$$$ restaurants. Should draw more residents and casual business lunch-goers. I work next to this development and the office is constantly bemoaning the lack of quality QSR options. Final...

"Not to be too cliché, but one of the reasons why we named it "The Union" was we think the site location and what we built on it will create some type of unity between Victory Park and Uptown that doesn’t really exist from a pedestrian standpoint today. And it’s going to be a union of...

Interview with Mike Hoque. Around the 12 minute mark the interviewer asks him about a timetable, and he says they're talking with a specific tenant and once they make a decision they'll break ground. So, nothing too new, but he's definitely committed. https://video.kera.org/video/mike-hoque-hoque-gl...

Surely you're not advocating for continuing to separate and strangle the city's neighborhoods with even bigger roads? Would you support expansion but moving highway below grade to reunify the surrounding areas? I hear your above points, especially w.r.t. families and income inequality. That being sa...

Time and again it's been empirically shown that expanding roadways leads to ever more traffic and congestion, in addition to killing neighborhoods and polluting the environment. Really hope recent developments signal a sea change in how this city thinks about and fights for a proper transportation m...

They're dumping dirt on the empty lot, smoothing it with a Bobcat and then steamrolling it. Any idea the point of this? First reaction is parking lot but why would they put the construction site banner fence up? Anyone in the forum work / commute near there and can read what the signage says?

Took this from my office balcony today. Looks like they're putting up blue construction site banners on the fence today. Also have a (super light) crew moving some dirt around. Anyone know of any developments or is this basic cosmetics? Couldn't see what the banner text said (far away and wasn't ful...
