Re: Deep Ellum 1.0
The rush hour traffic around the new Baylor building is going to be interesting. Thousands of people trying to get in or out of a building at the same time with two-lane streets on just two sides. No turn lanes and no signal lights, just a single 4-way stop. Oh, and a DART rail crossing blocking one...

Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit
Actually the limestone in this area is one of the best materials for tunnelling. Soft enough for easy boring, but hard enough to be self supporting without lots of reinforcement. That's why they considered tunnels for the I-635 express lanes -- the price of tunnelling was competitive with other opti...

^ Dallas has substantially more tech workers than Seattle (or Austin for that matter). But they're a smaller percentage of our much larger total workforce, so they don't get the press. Say what you will about streetcars; but Dallas' MATA street car ridership is actually quite decent. I'd love for the city to condemn it. There's an old saying in real estate: The highest and best use of any property is eminent domain. The funny thing is that if the city were to ever daylight Mill Creek -- which will never happen -- they would pretty much have to acquire this building. The existing...

Don't worry, this is just a formality. The decision is already made to screw up the street. They'll take out two lanes and replace them with bike lanes. The 99% will once again get hosed to placate the 1%.
