I went out for a walk today, and I've never seen so many people out and about just enjoying the outdoors (and not being glued to their phones). It's unfortunate what the world is going through at the moment, but this is a bit of a silver lining here. It really felt like new people were discovering t...
Jack & Ginger's opened today and I checked it out and had dinner there. I enjoyed the spot, the food was just alright, beer selection was good and it seemed like they had an extensive whiskey list as well. 77 Degrees was also open as well, but there weren't that many people there (then again, it...
I had dinner at Jaxxon last night at the Discovery District. Very cool vibes, downtown prices (not surprised) and yummy food. Interesting menu choices but all really good. I think this is an awesome addition to downtown. Sat outside at the patio and it was incredible. everyone should give it a try....
The newbie is an Italian-American restaurant called Sfereco and it will open in the former Ramen & Bao space adjacent to the Statler. This is a brand new entity from Refined Hospitality Concepts, the company food & beverage entity from developer and Statler owner Mehrdad Moayedi. Primo’s MX...
I can't remember the price point, but I recall these were pretty reasonably priced. I want to say they were in the $200s, possibly? That's what I meant by 'entry-level'.
^ Are those condos? I recall hearing about some entry-level priced condos that were supposed to be built in the area. To be honest, I don't make it out to the Cedars that often, so I haven't really kept up with the development.
That isn't stopping much taller buildings in Houston and Austin, even though they have much lower barriers to entry, and much smaller pools of institutional capital ready to compete for a property being sold at any given date, compared to the coastal markets. I don't know enough about Houston to co...
According to spokesperson Jacqueline O'Reilly, this location represents a brand new petite format that will be tailored to meet the needs of the building and the neighborhood. "It's a completely new la Madeleine experience," O'Reilly says. "We're bringing forward the famous recipes l...
Haha.. well that was certainly fun while it lasted. I'm really hoping the developer does find some way to incorporate this into their future development though.
Dallas' beloved La Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe is opening an exciting new bakery in Uptown Dallas, on the ground floor of High Street Residential's Residences at Park District, a new mixed-use development at 2100 Olive St. It's slated to debut in summer 2020. http://dallas.culturemap.com/new...

Newest amusement for Dallas' crazy fun Deep Ellum: axe-throwing bar A new one of those axe-throwing concepts is coming to Dallas' carrrraziest entertainment zone: Deep Ellum. Called Whiskey Hatchet, it's a bar-combination-axe throwing place that will open on the southern edge of Deep Ellum, in a wa...
They must be having a soft opening because friends of mine are there right now. Yeah, I've heard they are currently doing a soft opening. I tried to visit a week ago, but, on that particular day, they were only (soft) open during lunch hours. I'm not sure if they have expanded their soft opening ho...
Toluca in Uptown: A First Look and Chat with Co-Owner TJ Franks https://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/first-look-toluca-fresh-organic-food-in-a-bright-space-11876011 Nothing ever seems to do well in this particular spot, so we'll see how long this place lasts. I'm realize I'm getting way ahead...
We've tried a few times to make a sorta short term reservation at The Henry and there was no hope. It's always full. Wow, good for them! I know this was the case shortly after it opened, but I figured eventually things would calm down. I'm glad to see they are doing well, as it is a great space, an...
Those 500 people could turn into 3000 people if they would build this out to the dense levels of height that this parcel could support today. It's not people. It's units. When's the last time someone proposed a 500 unit development in the core? That's a lot of apartments. I doubt they'll bring back...
A little off topic, but it's funny that a year or two ago, we were all talking about an economic slowdown. I suppose a slowdown is inevitable and anything can happen, but I'm honestly (pleasantly) surprised at how much construction we are still seeing to this day.
Hahaha probably true, but I'd be almost as delighted by a 5 story donut! Agreed. I realize Lower Greenville is smack dab in the middle of a lot of single family homes, so I don't expect any towers over here, but I do think the area is reaching a point where more density would be good (even if it en...
Agreed, and it'll be great after phase 2 connects it all the way up to Klyde Warren Park. It's really a shame we couldn't get those bike lanes along McKinney Ave, because we could have eventually worked to get these two sets of bike lanes connected.
Interesting, I didn't see that comment earlier. I've always wondered if it was feasible to just shut down this small stretch of McKinney Ave (between Record and Lamar) to pedestrians only.
Progress! The City of Dallas is installing an ADA accessible ramp and a new crosswalk to better connect the West End to Victory Park. Thank you to David Blewett, Dallas City Council D14 for advocating for this welcomed and much needed improvement. https://www.facebook.com/DtownDallasInc/photos/a.11...
https://i.imgur.com/B1Bfny4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9C38n6s.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OO9qMT1.jpg Took a walk through the (partially) open plaza today. It was super exciting seeing the area really coming together and get a better sense as to what the completed project will look like.
I don't really know what was happening here, but perhaps the curb is being removed and it's being turned into more of a ramp (to match the ramp on the other side of the road)?

^^ My favorite part of the article, AT&T Discovery District will offer FREE parking in the evenings in the employee parking garages. Gotta love that!! Yes!! Great to know. I know Uber is doing the same thing, so I'm so glad these developments are being smarter and not just letting their parking...
Elm Street will be reduced to two lanes of traffic for two months beginning Monday, February 17, as work progresses on the 1401 Elm Street project. Closures will be between Stone Place and Field Street. https://www.facebook.com/groups/DallasDRC/permalink/10156725344211123/ This was posted on Facebo...
Just heard a rumor that Mia's is moving to the old Buzzbrews building on Lemmon. If true then maybe they can grab surrounding property around the old space and build something more substantial. Lemmon is so stuck in the old Dallas of the 1970's really could use some new denser taller development an...
cowboyeagle05 wrote:Did they delay the Wine Walk? Usually the first Wednesday of the month. I assume the weather was bad last Wednesday. Good to hear that event contributed to this cause.
Yeah, the weather was pretty bad last Wednesday, so it was delayed a week.
I attended the Cedar Springs Wine Walk last night and was talking to one of the store owners on the strip. I have no idea how reliable this information is, but I was told that ~$30,000 from the Wine Walk fund went towards this crosswalk. I knew the money raised from the wine walks were being reinves...
Bike Harwood Downtown Dallas, Inc., the City of Dallas, and the Better Block Foundation have partnered together to bring improved bicycle infrastructure along Harwood Street through Downtown, from Main Street to the Dallas Heritage Village. Known as Bike Harwood, this pilot project will provide sep...
It's a shame the business owners in this area were so opposed to having a total new street design here. I went to a birthday party at Mattito's a few weeks ago. It was an early Saturday evening around 7:00 and I parked over by the Kroger and just walked down the strip to the Centrum. In comparison ...
I echo what CowboyEagle05 pointed out. For instance, Texas is importing a LOT of physicians to respond to our growing population, many of them finishing training on the comparatively expensive coasts. It's not recommended for an attending to purchase a home right away after a move to a new location...
Kinda shocked that this is moving forward after Tom Thumb staked their claim. We keep hearing about the terrible margins in the grocery business, but here comes Kroger wanting to compete for even smaller crumbs in a crowded area. Especially with the Kroger Fresh Fare at Cityplace literally half a m...
I'm pretty surprised at the price point, I really thought it would be cheaper than Uptown pricing. I suppose there aren't that many new construction residential buildings in Downtown, so if you want to live in Downtown and want to rent in a new building, your options are pretty limited. Perhaps ther...
The Standard Pour is opening a 2nd location at Shops at Legacy. This will be the vacated Taco Diner spot (which I guess I didn't even know it had closed down)… https://escapehatchdallas.com/2020/02/the-standard-pour-lands-this-summer-at-the-shops-of-legacy-in-plano/ Good to know! The ever-prolific Harwood International is adding another new restaurant concept to its portfolio: Called Harwood Arms, it's a casual pub that aspires to exemplify the best of the British Isles. Located in the thick of the Harwood district at 2850 N. Harwood St., it'll open in spring 2020, accordin...
The newest concert hall in town has rolled out its lineup of acts: The HiFi Dallas, the new venue in Dallas' Design District which boasts a fortuitous Mark Cuban connection, is set to open in May, with a lineup that spotlights local and regional acts, from Bowling For Soup to The Revivalists. Curre...
