Agreed, the Firewheel concept is a modern day mall in the open. "Downtown" Southlake is thriving. I expect their will be more free-standing open shopping districts going forward as many of the remaining malls are razed or converted to that new concept.

Source? Marshall Field's did fairly well here, but when the chain was bought by Macy's and was absorbed, they closed the stores across the country where they competed directly with Macy's. I don't know why Saks Fifth Avenue failed in that store since they did fairly well in their original location ...

Progress on Epic's office tower 2 moves along at a nice clip. It is beginning to emerge from the raised highway through Downtown Dallas joining office tower 1 and the high rise apartment tower.

I have to say the Campanile is a nice addition to the Oaklawn skyline. Love that gold dome. Once the brickwork is finished & clock face is added on the tower, this will enhance its impressive impact to the area.

Many of the chain stores are closing due to bankruptcy or downsizing of the number of stores. If the location wasn't performing, they are shuttered. Wow, what truly bland building. It's an unappealing hotel. I still don't understand why an entire side of the tower is all concrete. Frankly, this one is one big ugly fail, IMO.

I counted the floors in both the construction photo & artist's rendering of the building. You are absolutely correct. It appears there are six more floors to go on the larger of the two residential towers.

Lemmon Avenue & Oak Lawn Avenue both need to be rejuvenated badly. Let's hope the area sees an upgrade over the next few years. I'll always remember the Esquire Theater in the area fondly. It was tragic when it was torn down. Dallas has a sad history of destroying neighborhood assets too quickly.

The clock tower's construction has reached the point where the dome & brick masonry will soon be added, as well as the clock itself. This is a nice addition to the development & area.
