Re: Arlington: I-30/TX 360 interchange redo
I sound grumpy today, but I watched the I-30 rebuild since it started in the mid 1990's. It's bad, very bad. The express lanes are never used and a terrible design. In 30 years they haven't hardly increased capacity through GP and Arlington. The new interchange is nice, but the rest of I-30 rebuild ...

Re: Mavs arena-hotel by Las Vegas Sands Corp.
I'm old enough to know that in the end, everything is about short term money gain. It'll be sad when the Mavs and Stars move out of the downtown area. People love going to games and concerts when they can hang out before and after in Uptown/Downtown/Victory. Irving is a terrible area for this. Texas...

So so many trees and grass and parks that'll never get built. Greenery in renderings give every project that wow factor that'll never happen.

Re: North Dallas: Galleria
No good place to drop these comments but this thread seems ok since above it's been talked about... My teen daughter specifically asked last week to go to the "mall with the turtles" to find clothes. She's well aware of Stonebriar, Willow Bend, Galleria but picks NP. Location and demograph...

Re: Oklahoma City, Norman Area Urban Development
That water looks like raw sewage. Unclear if you don't know, but it's from their red dirt (port) and high iron content. Similar color is in parts of east Texas. Half the state is stained red. It gets everywhere, on you, cars, clothes, inside buildings, everywhere. Good for OKC, they need some inves...

I think I heard $2B in synergies, which means $2B in layoffs and similar cost reductions via consolidation. Capitalism at work, and c-suites finding a way to leave their mark and legacy.

Re: Sherman - TI Chip Factory
I thought there was three different chip construction projects. Even if only two break ground, Collin, Denton and Grayson counties are going to be awash in new developments involving all aspects of this sort if manufacturing. The silicone prairie rolls on. Hopefully electricity generators will get ...

Re: Sherman - TI Chip Factory
[quote="Tnexster"]One thing to remember, it was more than just TI. Between both companies, the combined total is stunning. I recall that Finisar/Coherent was also considering expanding in Sherman, but not sure if that's going to happen. Keep in mind, most $$ for fabs goes to purchase equip...

Re: New Census Population Estimates
water issues of ATX/SA down south might be enough reason to pull up the tent stakes and scoot north just a lil bit. I'm not sure I agree Austin has water issues. Dallas' area's piping for water stretches for like 80 miles. I think Austin can find some water in an 80 mile radius. What new water sour...

Re: Downtown Progress
The city spent decades trying to make downtown comfortable for suburban office workers, now the city will have to make the whole downtown area comfortable for the people living there. I don't think it's bad that raw occupied office space is decreasing. What if it kept increasing each year? That wou...

I think some of those look great from the aerial view, but won't some of them look bland/boring from the pedestrian perspective? The only one I think has a huge impact to someone standing outside is this one: https://www.architecturalrecord.com/ext/resources/news/2023/July/DMA-Design-Reveal/1)-Aeri...

Re: New Census Population Estimates
https://www.waterdatafortexas.org/reservoirs/statewide is your friend. Austin has exactly 1 primary water source, the Colorado river. They're at 50% capacity and I wouldn't even call what they're seeing a bad drought. They don't have an aquifer like San Antonio, the western US, or Texas pan handle.

Re: New Census Population Estimates
There's no way Austin (and Phoenix) metro area can support a population boom for much longer. They have serious water supply issues, and imho are in denial. Read the Austin "Water Forward Plan". They're going to mostly rely on re-use and reduction. Their primary supplies will continue to b...

Re: Sherman - TI Chip Factory
TI was likely focused on finding a bunch of *CHEAP* land if anything, which Sherman for now still has plenty of. I can believe that, but it's not a big site. There are tons of places in DFW that it could have fit, probably even in Dallas/Richardson/Plano/etc of Collin County. I assume they were loo...

Re: Plano: Willow Bend Mall
Local residents I know 100% support this change. Either this, or the mall will die. Half of it needs to go. I visit Willow Bend quite often as we're super involved with North Texas Performing Arts. Everyone should go! https://ntpa.org/ We have every opportunity to shop there a lot, but don't. The pa...

Re: Norm Hitzges to retire from 1310-The Ticket
Unpopular opinion: I've listened to 1310 since 1994. 11 - 2 was my favorite. I never liked Norm's shows since he took so long to get out what he was trying to say. Lots of words without saying much, talked too slow. I always had to change the channel. But his draft coverages, horse racing, and chari...

Re: North Dallas: Galleria
A simple answer but this is really it for me:
I go to North Park a lot and buy a lot of stuff and like it because I park in the new garages and easily walk in.
I avoid Galleria because the parking situation is terrible.

This reminds me of Great Wolf Lodge with an outdoor area. Massive parking. They should have added just 1 or 2 levels of covered parking like Grandscape.

Re: Cheapest source of power for each county in USA
I'll just leave this here. Report on what went wrong in 2011. There's a real original link but I can't find it now. This type of cold weather has happened multiple times before, and will happen again. Anyone remember 1989? I think in 1983 we went 12 days below freezing. ?? https://www.kxan.com/wp-co...
