Man, I hope this one happens. IMO this is the single most encouraging project out of everything currently proposed. A nice-looking, tall residential building that will hopefully bring life to a part of downtown that's been mostly overlooked for decades.

Yep, that's correct. Their office is across-ish the street and they seem to keep their fleet of vehicles at the self storage joint.

Frontier announced this morning they will relocate to Dallas. 3000 jobs are expected to be created. Frontier will locate in Uptown, but the article didn't say exactly where. Very true, and in fact Dallas and its developers are already looking smart in this regard. Granted it wasn't on purpose, but we are way ahead of the curve on converting surplus office to residential. San Fran for example, where the office vacancy rate is anecdotally* well over 60%, hasn't even begun...

There are a few reasons why there isn't more residential development Downtown, the biggest of which being that other parts of the city have been, and probably continue to be, much more desirable places to live.

From what I saw on their website their Highland Park store already had it.

That's very cool but yes, it's an older design iteration. The office building on Knox that incorporates the former Mashburn facade is probably the closest thing from that video to the current design.

I think a 35 story residential tower being built in the heart of downtown, as opposed to its edges, Deep Ellum, Uptown, etc, is pretty spectacular, regardless of what the building looks like. I happen to like the building's appearance so for me this is a win/win! :)

Frankly, mixed-use residential is a best case scenario, in my opinion. There could always be a ground-floor gym so the only thing lost is that ugly YMCA structure.

I noticed yesterday the structures (formerly a car wash?) on the southwest corner of McCommas and Central had been razed. I've lost track of all the towers going up in this area but I assume this demo was in preparation for one of them. Woohoo!

There's caution tape around the former Beauty Bar today and some of the building's exterior elements have been removed. It looks like they're preparing to demo the rest of the structure soon.
