Re: Deep Ellum 1.0

^I could say that about many buildings in the core of DE. It's not the building, it's the fabric of the neighborhood, and how that neighborhood is unique, energetic and adds creativity to the whole city. Knocking down buildings in the core of Deep Ellum and progressively slapping up cookie cutter ap...

Re: Preservation in Dallas

A historic building survey was recently completed for both Downtown and Deep Ellum, and the ultimate goal is to use the information gathered to explore options to better protect the historic buildings found in these districts. The link below has maps, and at the bottom, very large and comprehensive ...

Re: Deep Ellum 1.0

I hate seeing this. Dallas needs to prevent developers from hollowing out the core of Deep Ellum (at least Elm, Main, Commerce and Canton) by knocking down old buildings and slapping up more cookie cutter apartments. Yeah, I know people would say that anything east of Hall is up for grabs... There a...

Re: I-345

I also thought about converging Elm, Main and Commerce to an efficient triple overpass over 345 (get it? Contrasting the triple underpass on the other side of DT)... It would create more deck park space over 345, but such a plan could result in the destruction of historic buildings between Good Lati...

Re: I-345

There's no need for so many cross town connectors... for example, why not eliminate Main over 345 and let Elm and Commerce feed to and from Deep Ellum? When Harwood was severed over Woodall Rodgers by KWP, the DMA freaked out, but now, no one even notices it. This is presuming that we want to largel...

Re: Dallas Museum of Art

My opinion, FWIW, which I admit isn't much... I'd demolish the whole building and start over. We have an art museum that looks like a mausoleum, walled off on all sides from the city and the usually-dead arts district that it should be a centerpiece for, and also separated from a signature public pa...

I took a tour of the building more than 10 years ago, for a project that didn't get off the ground. The only recognizable remnant of the original interior was the staircase between floors, which ...

It's really a shame how Billingsley has boxed in the Dallas Black Dance Theatre even further; first she cut it off from the rest of the district by a massive (and frankly ugly) cinder block building, and now it's wedged behind parking lots and parking garages.
