How about making surface parking out of it for 40 years? By then,we should be able to come up with something nice.

Re: Harwood Int'l District: The Swexan - Harwood Hotel (20 ST)

I think Barbier-Muller has lost his spark. The "parking plynth" is insult enough, but the glass box atop it, could have been built in the 1960's. He's spun gold out of straw much of the time, building sites along high speed roads and low income housing, that no one would touch. Unfortunate...

Re: DTD: The National/Thompson Hotel (1401 Elm)

I think the viewpoint is valid and not just hating. Dallas still lacks the streetlife that makes people feel safe. When you walk out of your hotel, look to the right and left. Which direction devoid of shops and restaurants should you take? With no tight-knit urban fabric,"luring" you to a...

Re: Harwood District: No.14 (388 FT / 27 ST)

Harwood gets a lot of flack here, but they've made very undesirable land worth something, and created a hybrid mixed use neighborhood. No one would touch the land in the 70's because of the high speed traffic. No one could imagine trying to cross one or more of "those" streets to get anywh...

Re: North Dallas: Midtown

What's amazing is the number of times Dallas can reinvent the wheel until they get it right. That usually means building a bunch of "stick built" apartments, and tearing them down 10 years later for something taller. So I give this project 20 more years and 3 more owners before someone bui...

Re: Fort Worth: Stockyards area redevelopment

Fort Worth is becoming more impressive by the year. If not exactly at breakneck speed, it's steadily more exciting in it's projects. And what they've done conceptually at the Stockyards, most recently with the mule barn area, is very thoughtful. It bears a general resemblance to The Pearl in San Ant...

The views of Harwood Park to the east, (with the church, Block House, Shriners etc in the foreground) would be interesting. And if you tire of walking your dog at Harwood around the corner, there's City Hall Plaza very close, and Main Street Garden only a minute or two further. I like.

Like everyone else, I hope this succeeds. But one or two towers like this in an area that has yet to prove itself is very aggressive. I wonder what they see that everyone else is overlooking. Maybe lower land cost makes for an Uptown caliber tower at a lower price point? This is hardly The Cedars o...

I think all of the "connective ideas" have merit, and all of them should be pursued. They are inevitable if the vision being expressed is actually to happen. As many have posited through the years, it's not "one" of anything, be it parks, stores, residential buildings, that will ...

Re: Downtown Dallas: Hillwood Urban's ~50 storey tower on former BoA motorcourt

The current proposal looks very much like a building now being built in Houston, adjacent to Discovery Green downtown. It "rounds a corner" like this one, with stair-stepping "towers" as well. I think it's proportions are better. Rather than building an original icon, Hillwood ma...

Can't we just do some really nice tree plantings all between the two bridges and along the new trail paths that would bloom in the spring and change colors in the fall. Nice to see the kinetic sculpture possibilities of these two masses as seen from a moving car.
