I passed by the site yesterday morning and the project is very much underway. All buildings along the Howell Street frontage have been cleared. The site was very active with some amount of excavation and site leveling.

A preliminary plat for the property bounded by Ross/Routh/San Jacinto/Leonard, minus the AT&T property at the corner of Leonard and Ross was submitted to the City. That's something at least.

I'm working on the trail portion of this project and the old bridge was too narrow to be used as multi-use trail without significant structural modification. The intent was to reuse it but after looking at different options it was determined it needs to be replaced with a new, wider bridge.

The separation is intentional. The original signage and striping plan has cyclists and pedestrians in their own spaces on the approaches and on the bridge itself. On the bridge pedestrians transition to the raised portion while cyclists continue in their own 'bike lane'.

Commerce is slated for a full reconstruction, similar to Elm, that will reduce the number of travel lanes and widen sidewalks. Proposals for bike lanes were not supported by the community and were removed from the project.

It was kind of a soft white glow. It wasn't nearly as bright as the building used to be. While I've seen the crews working on the white panels I could not tell what type of light was installed.

As of now the rainbow crossings are proposed to be implemented with striping and not pavers, tiles, stamped concrete etc. While not 'permanent' they should make for a dramatic enhancement to the strip.

These racks were not installed by the City. This type of rack is not preferred since it does not provide stability for the bike and can cause damage to the front wheel. The City usually installs 'U' racks.

You missed something. Mostly on the Oak Cliff side in fact. One will have a ramp the other will have stairs. The line down the middle will be a separation between east and west bicycle traffic. The approaches on the Riverfront side will be what appears to be ramps so another confusing Dallas design...

Unless I've missed something, restricting bikes to one side and pedestrians to another is not accurate. The south arch and approaches are fully built out to accommodate both cyclists and pedestrians. I do not know why these specific limits were chosen, but there are other projects in the Deep Ellum and Downtown areas that will help facilitate bike/ped connections into the CBD.
