Re: Las Colinas/North Irving Development
Nice. Wish the APT elevated people mover on the left was automated instead of running 6 to 6pm only. It would benefit all the developments and residents surrounding it, instead of empty bridge littering the landscape. The Dallas County Utility and Reclamation District (the agency responsible for ma...

Re: DART D2 Subway
Most of you are probably too young to remember this, but around 1981 Dallas Transit System drivers held a wildcat strike for higher wages. They claimed that gridlock would bring the city to its knees. The reality: Nobody noticed. Traffic was unaffected. Confronted with their failure the drivers ret...

Re: Dallas Area Rapid Transit
Found this little gem within the meeting presentations on the DART website, specifically the "2045 Transit System Plan" planningitem3_12nov19_Page_13.png This is the first time I've seen conceptual renderings of the elusive Knox/Henderson Station. Hopefully they seriously consider and ulti...

Re: the Cotton Belt line
So it looks like the Cotton Belt will be getting a color designation after all to better align it with DART's other rail services. Apparently it's going to be called the "Silver Line" complete with special branding and custom logo. Seems like a good compromise between having a completely d...

Re: DART D2 Subway
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are the advantages of heavy rail over light rail? I'm trying to remember how the PR campaign 'illuminated' the light rail advantages back in the day, but that dose of advertising slips my mind. Something along the lines of quieter, more reliable and zippier sta...

Re: DART D2 Subway
And I would say you need to learn the difference between theoretical and actual. That one mile highway handles as many people each day as the entire DART system -- trains and busses. And at about 1% of the operating cost. Well ya got me there, we should built eight-lane highways all over the Metrop...

I think the anti-transit anti-urban anti-quality of life people here on this thread take for granted that Dallas will always be booming with jobs and prosperity. That's not a given. If people don't want to live here, the jobs will follow them wherever they move. People used to move in hordes to Det...

Re: DART D2 Subway
I have looked at DART's proposed operating plan, and both those options are highly unlikely to ever happen. The North Central section is consistently the busiest part of the system, and removing Orange line trains from that section would reduce frequency and increase crowding on the Red line. If th...

Re: DART D2 Subway
If your statement is only factual under conditions which rarely occur in Dallas, it's not a fact- it's a pipe dream. Sure, if we had the Dallas Sheriff compel all the people in a given neighborhood to rearrange their lives so they all took the bus to work instead of individual cars, our transit sys...

Re: DART D2 Subway

Re: DART D2 Subway
I am glad to hear that there was another issue. I was on the Green line train downtown and we had no idea why the delay but it seemed strange that the train would stop and sit in between each station until we past PEARL when we went back to normal speed to Fair Park Station. My point was that as Da...

Re: DART D2 Subway
Leaving aside the fact that state fair ridership is not a valid metric to base billion-dollar decicions on, the delays were the result of full Green Line trains getting fuller as they picked up riders at Victory (TRE), West End (Red & Blue lines from the south) and Pearl (Red, Blue, Orange from...

Re: Dallas Love Field People Mover
DART knew the FTA wouldn't approve the Green Line with a tunnel under Love Field, yet proposed a one of a kind out of the box solution which the FTA refused. It's disingenuous to suggest DART doesn't design it's light rail lines to meet all FTA half-baked formulas including one measuring "cost...

Re: Dallas Love Field People Mover
16 years is long time to hold a grudge. The Green Line FEIS was approved late 2003, not long after the Federal government blew it’s budget following 9-11-2001. Whereas locally the Green Line was rated at a higher priority, what was happening in the Middle East had a higher priority nationally. Mayb...

Re: Dallas Love Field People Mover
DART studied tunneling under Love Field to get to its terminal and place a station there., but during the EIS process it was nixed for some logical reasons by the FTA. When a project is partially funded by the Federal government, you are allowing it to dictate how a project proceeds. DART is studyi...

Re: Dallas Love Field People Mover
Maybe I didn't make it clear, this wouldn't be a separate line. It would just be an extension, an addition, to the orange line and a new station on the orange line. That way Love Field would be directly connected to the DART rail system instead of making people take a bus, streetcar, or long people...

Will this actually be called the Cotton Belt line or will it be given a color based name as other DART lines. Re: DART D2 Subway
The majority of passengers using Love field would not use DART even if there was a subway station in the basement of the terminal. The Love Link bus isn't the hurdle -they are timed such that there's pretty much always one there to meet arriving trains - it's getting airport users from where they l...

Re: DART D2 Subway

Tangential question, but, are there plans to extend DCTA into a single train into downtown Dallas? Or, will a transfer to LRT always be required? Any word on if or how the Las Colinas APT people mover will reach the new Music Factory development? I've seen everything from plans to extend the guideway to the median of Las Colinas Boulevard with an adjacent station, to a stop (awkwardly placed) just behind the main stage, to no access at all.

I keep hearing one of biggest reasons the Cotton Belt line is so gosh darn important to build is to keep Addison in DART who has been paying into the system since 1983 and because they're the only member city that still doesn't have rail service and that they 'just deserve it already.' Well guess wh...
